Picturesque Nice

I can't think of a way to start this post until I have acknowledged the heartache and sadness about what is happening around the world. 
Having been to Nice twice, the last time back in September and looking back over my photos was reminded of how beautiful this place is.
Having walked along the Promenade des Anglais, dined out at a street-side restaurant, swam in the sparkling blue French Riviera  and shopped at the brocante. Will share a few of my snapshots

We are reminded of how precious life is and wouldn't it be great if we could live together in this beautiful world peacefully.

Out and about in Nice

Walking along the Promenade des Anglais, was great to look up at all the wonderful old buildings and Hotels ~ 

I do love the Architecture, with its grandiose detail and ornate fancy iron work. 
Imagine having an apartment in this one overlooking the azure sea
 

From the elegant Epoque, Baroque, to Neo classical style
It's amazing how colourful the buildings are with paintwork of every imaginable colour.
A happy place just because of that ... seeing all the gorgeous hues.

There were tall palm trees blowing in the breeze, blue sky and lots of sunshine
 

The famous  Le Negresco Hotel overlooks the beach

 
 

I found this old maison charming, painted in a soft pastel pink with pretty shutters

We took a ride on the open- deck bus and got to see around the old part of the City built on the hill and around the port

 

Lots of very posh yachts and boats were moored in the marina


 














If you are feeling energetic, you can rent a bike from the rack to give you the freedom to ride around and see more of the city

You can see why this is one of the most popular places to spend a holiday - mild climate and so much to see.

The brocante market - Nice

We spent the day and I do mean day, largely wandering around the largest brocante market in Nice, in the old part of the town. This market is held every Monday and lovers of old furniture and wonderful Antiques will be in their element here.

We were able to buy linen monogrammed sheets, 1920's Parisian postcards and a gorgeous old antique brooch.

Lunch was tiny mussels and a pichet of vin rose and lots of water - it was a scorcher of a day and about 25 degrees, so it was great to sit down and rest our tired feet, in under the shade of an umbrella.
Don't think I could ever get used to the number of people smoking cigarettes everywhere, sometimes even when they are having their meals.

The apartment we stayed in, was a 1920's affair with a minute deck, large gilt mirror and sparkly chandelier and various other accoutrements, tres chic and about 500 metres from the Med.
Unfortunately though the bed felt like it was from the 1920's, all saggy and we ended up sleeping on the cushions from the sofa, on the floor.

The last night we stayed here was a lovely big full moon and I tried to get a shot of the moon through the balcony railing.

Next time I will show some of the Architecture around Nice - I loved all the magnificent, and grand old buildings.

French Riviera ~ sur la plage

With the arrival of winter here,  with cooler weather and pouring rain,  a little sunshine is needed here today.
So looking back through my holiday snaps, here are a few.

We are in Nice ... which is wait for it {drumroll please} nice.

The weather is beautiful and there are squads of people everywhere, walking, relaxing and lolling on the beach.

The beach comprises largely of fat sand unless you spend a few Euros and descend into a private beach with sun-loungers and parasols and have a waiter that can bring you a light lunch of a sandwich, salad and drinks.
The Mediterranean is the playground of the rich and famous so we were able to enjoy a little taste of this lifestyle for a few days.

It was great to be beside the blue ocean stretching out forever, everyone is relaxed and getting a golden tan before having to go back home.
