Birthday's!

Birthday's... you either love them, hate them or can't decide.
Every year you get one and there is nothing you can do about that.

Well it is that time of the year again to celebrate the day of my birth ~ 16th May, and I will not tell you the year!
As a small child you lived for your birthday and to be another year older.
As another one gets closer, you could get a little frowny but instead I want to think of how life has been good and I am thankful everytime I open my eyes to a new day.
Looking back on all the lovely moments of the past year and for looking ahead to more wonderful times in the coming year.

I love the flower for the month of May ~ Lily of the Valley, Convallaria, Muguet.

The Lily of the Valley is prized for its delicate fragrance and beautiful blooms.
The meanings of the Lily of the valley ~ a symbol of happiness, purity of heart and sweetness. It is one of my all time favourite flowers and I tried growing some one year and they were lovely in the garden.

To help celebrate my birthday, I am giving away a small gift.
Just leave a comment to say what you like or dislike about birthdays and what is your birth month flower?

Have a lovely weekend
Hugs
Carolyn

  1. Happy Birthday Carolyn! I enjoy birthdays, regardless of the number of candles on the cake. I feel that each birthday is another blessing from God that I have lived another year. I don't mind getting older and wrinkles to me are a sign that I have lived life:) The rose is my birth month flower (June) and is also my favorite flower!

    Blessings,

    Kim

  4. Happy Birthday Carolyn! I'm not sure how I feel about this year's birthday, clocking up my half century in August! Yikes! And I tell you what, I don't know what my flower is, but the animal for August in some North Americam Indian cultures is the bear, rather apt I feel :) Birthday Hugs for tomorrow, Linda

  5. Tha happiest of birthdays to you dear Carolyn! I'm a birthday freak - love them heaps, even though mine is very early in the year & everyone's partied out from Christmas & New Year. My darling Mum always called first in the morning singing to me down the line. Now it's the only wistful moment of the day, I miss that call so very much. My birthday flower is snowdrop & I have to say, in the heat of early January, that's the last flower I'd ever expect to see in my garden!

  7. Hi Miss Kris,

Thank you for your sweet words ~ you need a birthday cake - I am with you there.
The Waterlily is a pretty flower.

    Hi Linda,

    Many thanks for visiting.
Your flower is either the Gladiolus or Poppy.

    Hi Millie,

My dear parents call and do the same - one on each phone singing happy birthday to me. I can imagine everyone partied out from Christmas and New Year!

Thank you Melanie for your kind words.

  11. First of all, I would like to thank you, Carolyn, for the question because I have never known what my birth month flower was. I had to look it up. October's flowers are Cosmos.
Happy, happy birthday. I hope the celebrations are great.
I don't mind birthdays. They are just a number. My mom celebrated her 90th on the 12th of May. I love Lily of the Valley and have some in my backyard. Bringing them inside makes the house smell wonderful. I do love cake - especially mocha but so far have not had any on any of my birthdays. Perhaps one day I may. Go out now and celebrate - it's your day after all!

  12. Happy Birthday, my dear Carolyn!
I just asked Google about my birth flower and it is Marigold (Calendula). That's a nice one.
Our roses here are still flowering in october. There are just a few days, the first flowers buds began to open but were badly showered with heavy rain.

I have to say I love lily of the valley because it smells so good. At the shop Yves Rocher, I bought some perfume smelling lily of the valley and use to wear it in may!!!!

I hope you will have a good time for your birthday.

I send yyou lots of hugs,
    XXXXXXX,
    Sophie.

  14. Happy Birthday for tomorrow Carolyn. I hadn't forgotten but had hoped to send a card by now. Sadly Mum spent a night in hospital this week so my plans flew out the window. She is okay though, was just a kidney infection.
What do I love about my birthday - that it's the only day I don't have to share with anyone in my family (unlike Christmas) What don't I like.. that they seem to be closer together!! I love my family's birthday's though and love to give presents. My birth flower is Dad's favourite - Rose (June) the same as my sister Raelene who will be 50 this year. And I'm two years older than sis and about 3 weeks younger than you Carolyn. Whoops! hehe.. have a lovely day dear friend.

  16. ((((HAPPY BIRTHDAY CAROLYN)))))

I hope you have a wonderful day filled with lots of love happiness and family and friends. You are ver special and deserve to enjoy a special day!
When I opened your blog, it made me smile. My favorite flower is the Lily of the Valley too!! It is my birth flower too!! I think Lily of the Valley is such a sweet, delicate, feminine looking flower. The flower looks like little upside down bells and I picture a little flower fairy standing under the flowers shading herself from the sun.

My Birthday is May 28 and I like birthdays because spending time with my family is the best. Whether we stay home and go on a nature walk in our woods or go on an outing. It's the closeness that I enjoy.

I hope you have the best day ever.

  17. A very happy birthday to you Carolyn! Lily of the Valley are favourites of mine too. The scent is lovely.
My birthday is in February and I think the flower is a Violet.
I rather like birthdays, especially now i've got grandchildren and we can have great parties with cakes and jelly and balloons etc. I'm never going to grow up!

My flower is a carnation but I'm not sure that's my favorite flower! Yours is beautiful!

    Have a wonderful day! CELEBRATE!!!

  20. Yes it's the Gladdy, I like the species gladiolus, it has a rather beautiful scent. I'm not so keen on the huge garden varieties...... flowers need to be scented. Lily of the Valley has a wonderful scent, my friend has a huge patch of them and when I have a spot for them in the garden I'm going to get some roots from her so that I can have that lovely scent inside when they're in bloom.:)

  21. Hi Vee,

I love the carnation, especially the pale pink. One thing though a lot of the modern varieties do not have the beautiful fragrance, I have noticed.

Glad that you found out your birth flower Dolores.
Cake is good and I made a carrot cake with cream cheese and pineapple frosting yesterday. I will have to share the recipe.

    thank you so much Sophie.
Marigolds are a lovely flower, I grew some one year and loved the bright and happy colours they showed in the garden.

    Hi Pat,

Yes, so far there are you and me and I found Carol shares a May birthday with us.
Our daughter's is the 29th May.
I just remembered, Mona had a May birthday too.

Thanks Karen for your kind words.
I was sorry to hear that your Mum has been in hospital.
Hard to believe Raelene is turning
50! Where do the years go!

Thank you Mona for your kind words.

Thank you Carol and I did have the best day and it is not over with yet. V. our daughter's birthday is the day after yours.

    Hi Lynda,

Thanks for your kind words ~ Violets are such a sweet flower for the colour and fragrance.
They just seem to come up everywhere and I love to have a vase on the kitchen windowsill.

    Hi Mandy,

Birthday's are special and it is the one time of the year that you feel that it is your day.

    Hi Diane,

I have had a lovely day thank you and I will share some photos on another post, of my blog.

    Hi Linda,

Good luck with growing the Lily of the valley as it will be such a treat, as you say to bring some inside the house to put in a vase.

    Hugs

  22. Oh, Carolyn! I hope you had a smashing birthday! I hope all your wishes came true.

I LOVE lily of the valley! So delicate, those teeny tiny little blooms. Even the broad leaves are beautiful bunched together, no? I planted dozens of them in my garden and would harvest them each spring.

My flower is the sweet pea, but I've never grown that. ha! I'm not big on birthdays. Well, I love everyone else's, but I could do without mine. I don't mind the aging. I just hate the attention.

  23. Hi Bella,

Thank you, for your kind words.

I had a lovely day just with the Family so that was really neat.

Sweet pea has a beautiful fragrance and they make a show in all the various colours.

  24. I hope I'm not too late with this. I became acquainted with lily of the valley upon my daughter's birth (another May baby, like you). I find its scent intoxicating. So sweet and fresh.

What I like about birthdays: The attention!

What I dislike about birthdays: Mine is so close to Christmas that I often receive combination birthday/Christmas cards. Ugh.

    December birthday flower is narcissus.

    Thanks, Carolyn!

  25. Hi Lavinia,

No not too late and glad you have dropped by.

My Mother's birthday is December and I know what you mean about having a birthday near Christmas.
My daughter is May 29th, so another May baby.
