February Favourites
I wanted to share with you a few of my favourite things and what I love about this time of the year.
Can't get enough of the cherries, this season the juicy, ripe dark fruit are really the best I have tasted
Rushed to get my camera the other day, when I saw this beautiful old sailing ship sail by the window
With the heat and mosquitoes around it is all a little much and I am actually looking forward to cooler weather and did not think I would ever say that.
The cotton mosquito net has been good - at night the windows can be open wide and the breeze blows through and you can hear the little mosquitoes making a racket, but they can not get in.
It is the high season for the cruise ships and on Friday there were three in port. The Queen Elizabeth, is impressive looking up at the majestic huge boat. Downtown Auckland was really bustling with all the tourists getting about, to see a little of the City.
Now to share a few pretty roses and gypsophila I bought from the market
Enjoy the little things in life
How can it be that we are now in the month of March!
Have a wonderful week dear friends
hugs

Cruise ship at the Port of Auckland
Carolyn has asked me to write something for her blog - so here are my thoughts.Well it is officially summer - not that you would know it, given the cool breezes and rain clouds.
(in the Southern Hemisphere, Southern winds = cold!!) that continue to afflict us.
But a sign that the seasons have or are about to change is the start of the Cruise ship season.
Suddenly they are here... these monstrous carriers of people from everywhere, but mostly Americans and Australian tourists.
We see them staggering around in matching track pants and wearing their blue blocker
sunnies as they clutch their maps and look a little bewildered.
Today in Port was a really huge boat that we haven't had the pleasure of before - subtlety named "Celestial Soltice" that appears to have disgorged thousands of travellers to wander around and see the sights of the City of Auckland.
I was staggered by the size of the vessel and took a couple of snaps as I ran for the ferry.
It seems out of scale - over 500 metres long and perhaps 11-12 stories high.
http://www.celebritycruises.com/ships/celebrity-solstice#Photo_Gallery/ships/celebrity-solstice/photo-gallery The promos show the boat with youthful folk all having fun but I sensed the average age of those
on board was probably more like the retired and older age bracket.
Anyway it gives the City a bit of vibrancy and a change from the usual workers rushing off to their jobs and work for the day.
Hope you are all well and having a great wind down to Christmas xx
Thank you Martin, for taking the photos and writing this post today

Sailing away
Today, I think I will write about travel, the sort which evokes a cruising experience from a bygone era, when the ship dominated transatlantic travel, before the jet age.
They must have been very glamorous times, when you would wave goodbye to the people left behind and as the poster says " Getting there is half the fun!"

These two majestic Cruise ships were in port this week, on Tuesday the Queen Victoria and today the Queen Elizabeth.
How does this sound, to you ... Art and antiques, world class dining experience, deco ball rooms, swimming pools, posh spas, entertainment and amazing sea views, by day and moon light and starry nights from the deck at night.
I could be tempted by all this and every time I see one of the boats in port I feel like going to pack a little bag and sail away for an adventure. A summer holiday from 38 pound ~ those were the days!
Hope that you are having a lovely week
hugs
Carolyn
