Chanel No. 5

Andy Warhole painted this print, of the bottle of Chanel No. 5.
After we had our bathroom tiled, it hung back up in the space on the wall where it had always been.  Sadly the hook did not hold and alas, it fell and the glass broke into lots of pieces.

It had been sitting away in storage until my husband went and got it reframed this time with a  more elaborate gilt frame and this time with a more secure hook. So it is now back gracing the wall in the bathroom again.

I have always loved Chanel No 5 from the time my then boyfriend, ( husband ) kindly gave me my first bottle. Ever since, for my birthday or Christmas I feel excited to have a little box wrapped up in under the tree.
I adore other perfumes also, but I always find this one to be timeless.
Fragrances bring back memories of pastimes in a way nothing else can and we probably all have a  signature fragrance and one that makes you feel beautiful.  Perfume is one of life's great pleasures.

I am fascinated by the origin and history of this perfume ... The number five, was a lucky number for Madame Chanel and  at the launch, she presented her new perfume on the fifth day, of the fifth month of 1921.

I am not young but I feel young
The day I feel old, I will go to bed and stay there.
J'aime la vie.
I feel that to live is a wonderful thing
~ Coco Chanel

Best wishes to each of you, for a joyful week
hugs
Carolyn

  2. Dear Carolyn,
Oh I love this post.. My mother-in-law only wore Chanel No 5.. My mom loved Evening in Paris.
Isn't is wonderful how scents bring back memories?
I wish I knew the name of the perfume my grandmother wore.. I loved the scent, but have no idea what the name was.. Years ago, when I was in a dress shop, a lady walked by me and I was sure she was wearing my grandma's perfume!
I should have asked her what it was.
    Wishing you a beautiful week.
    Hugs!

p.s. Have you watched the movie Coco ? It was wonderful.

For me, most memories from long ago are olfactory...perfume has been part of my daily pleasure since the age of 10...my first was Coty's Muguet des Bois...

  9. Dearest Carolyn,
Andy Warhole did a great job on this Chanel No 5. You can be very proud for having this gracing your bathroom as it also has a lot of meaning for both of you. I only knew Andy Warhole through Campbell Soup... My favorite is Chanelle Allure.
    Hugs,
    Mariette

  13. Hi dearest Carolyn,
an especially odorous perfume for a wonderful lady! Unfortunately, the scent of Chanel No. 5 does not fit to me ... Interestingly, I'm more the type for men's fragrances. (Currently I love "London" by Dunhill ...) How nice that your Chanell picture is now re-framed and hanging on the spot!
    Warm hugs my dear!

  20. It's fascinating that Chanel No. 5 is mostly bought by our boyfriends or husbands. I got my first bottle from mine and although I don't use it on many occasions its scent reminds me him, our first days together.

I love your taste in decorating, Carolyn. Have a beautiful day!! xx

  28. Lovely post, Carolyn. And I agree. And such fun to hang that print on your bathroom wall.
One of the saddest things that's happened as I've aged is an allergy to nearly all perfumes. So I can admire from a distance only. :)

  31. I think you're right about everyone having a signature perfume, although I alternate between perfume proper and things like rose water and sandalwood. I don't like to be without scent of some kind on any day.

  34. Dear Carolyn...thank you for sharing such a lovely story. I remember receiving a tiny bottle of the fragrance when I was a little girl...way back in time when perfumers offered TINY bottles. Such an extravagance it was, and is still!
    Sending delights your way...

  36. Carolyn,
I am with you, perfume bottles are so pretty to me. Besides the fact that they smell so nice, the labels are often so dazzling. How nice of your husband to give you the gift of Chanel No 5 on your birthdays. And the purse that sits next to it is beautiful.

    Love,

How sweet of your husband to reframe it for you ;)
    It is gorgeous!
And its true, fragrances do bring back memories. There is a cologne that my husband wore when we first met, that I usually manage to put under the tree for him. To me that fragrance is just for my husband.
    Have a great week!
