Do you enjoy cooking?

Here are some of my favourite books on my kitchen shelf.

This one I came across last year and had to buy it ;
Annabel Langbein, The Free Range Cook.
Not only does it have wonderful photographs, the recipes are great.
I have cooked quite a lot of tasty meals from it and can highly recommend this book.
Here are a few pages, from the book

Annabel cooks in a little cabin in Central Otago at the foot of the Southern Alps. Imagine looking out at that everyday!

Most of her food comes from her garden and you can see her going on expeditions around the region hunting, fishing and gathering. The book is the companion to her International TV series, which is really a good watch, if you get the chance to see this series.
Your home will soon be your favourite restaurant, she says.

Digging in the earth is such a simple way to feel grounded
When you start with really fresh ingredients it's easy to be a great cook are some of the quotes she shares.

My family and I have been enjoying some of the recipes I have tried, from this book.

Have a fun week planning all your favourite things,  maybe some creative work and happy recipe hunting.
Hugs
Carolyn

  1. Oh dearest, I agree. A cook book MUST have beautiful photos or else it is just not appealing! I have FRANCE and ITALY THE BEAUTIFUL and they are a must.....enjoy your week. Anita

  2. Hello Carolyn,

Well, I have to be honest, I don't cook, it's never been something I enjoy doing. Thankfully my husband does otherwise we'd be eating out every night or TV dinner LOL

I do agree though, I love going out to the lemon tree to get lemons for fresh lemonade, getting tomatoes for our salad when they're in season.

I hope you have a wonderful week!

  3. Dearest Carolyn,

That must be telepathy... Just cleaned up from a dinner for 11 that I hosted here at home. I had a lady help me serve though as it would be too much for me to handle the three courses on my own. Pieter's Monday Night Club dines each month at some member's home and after the dinner another member gives a paper. Interesting but also hard work. As I was not quite 100% from a lingering cold. Not so much a runny nose but some cough, mainly at night time. Tomorrow I will sleep in...
But yes, I do LOVE to cook and I certainly am addicted to cook books as I got them in many languages. Love to select recipes, buying the ingredients and than get going. Always a joy to have happy people around your dinner table! In the Netherlands I used to cook for the entire family once a year when we had a fair. All 17 of us (the number back than...) sitting around two tables and I loved to do this labor of love.
    Love to you,

    Mariette

  4. Hi Carolyn, I used to collect pretty cook books and loved cooking when I was in my twenties. I rarely look into them anymore and I don't enjoy cooking as much as I did back then. There are some cook shows I find very inspiring though like the ones by Jamie Oliver. Annabel Langbein hasn't been on TV over here yet.
    Have a great week!
    Hugs,
    Julia

  5. Hi Carolyn,
    Sweet Blessings to you!
Hope you have a terrific week.

I love Cook Books and have a collection of them. I can enjoy them simply by looking at the beautiful pictures. Awesome. The same with decorating books.....all I have to do is look at the pictures and I unwind.

    God bless,
    d

  7. Hi Carolyn,
Funny, I so enjoy spending hours looking at cook books and cooking magazines, but I really don't enjoy cooking. I'm more of a baking girl. I happen to be lucky enough to be married to a man who adores cooking, and does it well. You know the type...they open the fridge, see whats available, and whip up something delicious. No recipes for him, as it is all created by his imagination. I guess we make a great pair, the chef and the baker! :)
Mind you, that cook book you mentioned looks wonderful.
    Have a great week!

  16. Hi Carolyne! :)
I'm very bad at cooking, but my mum, grannies and untie are very very good at it, and they've got many cook books, someone very old!
Some of these are very pretty illustrated!

  19. Just tonite made a soup recipe that I haven't made in a while. It comes from a Country Home magazine dated March/April 1996. One of hubby's favorite soups. Herb Lentil Soup. I have lots of cookbooks too, but it is so easy to get things offline now that I tend to forget about them. Have a few vegetarian ones that I really should take a look at and start trying out. I like your collection of books. Haven't heard of the chef you mentioned; she certainly does live in a beautiful area. So nice to have everything fresh and right in your own backyard. Hope you are having a great week. Tammy

  20. Hi Carolyn,
I love to cook! I find it a way to relax and get those feel good feelings you get from nurturing those you love. This time of year is my favorite time to cook, because we feel more like eating in the cold months than in the Summer. I also LOVE baking and then eating those things I make ;)
I really enjoyed reading about your elections there in NZ. I wish I knew more about world politics, so I find this news fascinating.
As always Carolyn, it is such a joy to come by and see what you have been up to in your beautiful life.
    sending love...

  24. I am probably one of the few bloggers that DOES NOT like to cook. My husband is the chef around here. The only time I enjoy cooking is when it is an extra special occasion or a Holiday. It wasn't UNTIL I found this cookbook,"Irelands Comfort Foods" that I decided to start cooking again. Because the names of the recipes and the photos in the cookbook are so darn wonderful, I feel I must cook up a batch of "Grandma Murphy's Broccoli and Blue Cheese Soup" or "Fermanagh Black Bacon and Chicken Chowder"! Who can stay away from the stove when your mouth is watering for such things as these??!

  25. My facourite cook book is the one that contains 1000 vegetarian recipes. No photos but more ideas.

I'm actually really boring as a cook, all those 1000 ideas and I usually make the same ten basic meals time after time.

  26. Cook books are some of my favorite bed time reading. There are some real beauties out there.....but I have to say my favorites are about baking and especially bread, which I am am making even as I write. ;-D

  28. Hi Carolyn,
Yes! I have watched the tv series "The Free Range Cook" and absolutely loved it - not only the food but the stunning scenery.
I'm sure you will have much fun trying out her delish recipes - how great to see a cookbook with so many beautiful photos.
Take care and thank you for dropping over to say hello.

  29. I love to cook and I love cookbooks. I read them like they're story books and I guess perhaps they are. In each recipe I see a story for me - how I would do it, what I would serve it on and to whom - all the things that would make it mine...
And most of all, it must have beautiful photographs!

  31. What lovely books!! I enjoy reading them and watching fabulous cooks on TV more than I like cooking myself - it just makes me so tired! But I do cook (we must eat!)and occasionally I do make something special...like a German Chocolate Cake which I just bought all the fixings for today!
Blessings for happy times of cooking during this holiday season!

  32. Hi Carolyn,

A lovely book indeed. I can't even imagine having that view!! I collect cookbooks also. I really enjoy reading about food...almost as much as eating the food. This would make a great Christmas present. I'll have to see if I can find her tv series. I've never seen it advertised here. Luckily we have our handy dandy computers!

    Warm hugs,
    ~ Jenn
