Happy Ruby Tuesday

Mary Ruffle ~ love all these old cotton reels.

I just want to vent a little here, hope you don't mind.
My Cartier watch that my husband gave me for a big special birthday seemed to stop.
We took it into the jeweler thinking that all that would be needed was a new battery... perhaps.
As the watch is not even 3 years old, (the guarantee was for 2 years) I had to pay $585 to have it repaired.
I would have thought a name like this would last for years and years.
Sad when they do not make things like they used to.

Then on Friday I was going over on the ferry and happened to look at my ring and found the diamond, had fallen out, after almost 25 years ~ I was so sad :o(

I hope that you are having a great week.
I am enjoying the start of mine ... picked another bucket of olives yesterday, these were the ones at the top of the trees and had to perch up a ladder to reach them.
The weather is overcast today, so hopefully we might be going to get some rain.

Happy week
Hugs
Carolyn

  1. Oh, Carolyn, I'm so sorry. Maybe the diamond fell out at home and you'll find it?!

Sadly things aren't made the way they used to be and standing behind a product. One would think that a Cartier watch would have a lifetime guarantee or at a minimum ten years!

Hey, in reading your post again, could you have lost the diamond when you were picking olives?!?!

    xxoo

  2. Hi, dear Caroly, oh my goodness, that really had been an expensive watch repair! I think as well that this shouldn't happen with such a brand name product after only 3 years.
I'm so sorry you lost the diamond of your ring! What a shame!
It must be wonderful to have your own olive oil from hand picked olives!
    Have a great week, girl!
    Hugs,
    Julia

  3. Hi Marsha,

Hopefully it might turn up somewhere around the house.
Yes, it could have fallen out when I was picking the olives and will have to keep a look out.
That is what I said to the guy in the shop - you would think that the guarantee would be for 10 years.

Many thanks Julia, for your visit and kind words.
Yes, it is lovely to have the oil from our olives - this is the second year they have produced fruit.
    Happy week

  4. OH Carolyn, I can imagine your dispair losing your diamond. A friend lost one of her 25 diamonds in her engagement ring, while I was visiting and it had to be in the house but we couldn't find it anywhere!!! So little but so precious. I hope it's covered by insurance.

  5. Carolyn, I'm so sorry to hear about your watch, you would think they would have a lifetime guarantee for as much as a watch like that costs...I lost one of the tiny and mean tiny, diamonds from my wedding band and it cost just about 300.00 to replace it but because we didn't have the ring cleaned on time they wouldn't cover the replacement. I know how you feel...your watch is very elegant and I love that style...Thank you for your sweet comments that you left me, your such a sweet friend...hugs, Jennifer

  6. Hi Karen,

    Thanks for your visit.
Sorry to hear about your friend loosing her diamond in her ring.
We do have Insurance, so will probably claim if I do not find it.

Thank you Jennifer, for visiting me today.
I could not believe it when the Jeweler said that it was out of the guarantee.

    Hugs
    Carolyn

  7. Don't Cartier make ciggies as well dear Carolyn? I'm sad to hear that your week is not the best, maybe it would be a good excuse to take to your bed, pull the covers up & not come out 'til next Monday!!! I can produce one of Millie's Special Leave Forms to give to hubby if that would help.

  8. Oh Carolyn I bet you felt sick when you looked at your diamond ring. I know I would! And I can't believe that a Cartier watch would need such a major repair after only 3 years. A lifetime guarantee is more what I would expect from such a reputable premier brand!

    ReplyDelete
  9. Thanks Millie, one of your special leave forms would be good, but I will solider on!
    Your words cheered me up!

Oh that is how I am feeling Amanda, especially when we have bought 3 watches from the same establishment, so will not be going back to that Jeweler again.

  10. I'm so sorry to hear about the watch :/ That definitely doesn't sound right coming from a luxury label like that, and I'm surprised the warranty only holds for 2 years. I've had cheaper watches last a lot longer than that without breaking. The diamond is such a shame as well. I'm always scared the same will happen to my ring.

Hopefully you'll get everything sorted but I can understand your frustration. On a lighter note, the olive picking sounds wonderful!

  11. Ciao mia carissima amica!!!

  12. How lovely that you can just go out and pick baskets of olives! :) :) How wonderful for you, my love! :) :)

I love that ruby lipstick on top! Reminds me of my ruby and diamonds jewelry set! :) And one of the diamonds fell off one of the earrings, after about 18 years! (they were mine since I was little, though, I only started wearing them as an adult, of course)but I had it replaced! Perhaps you can have your diamond replaced, Carolyn! Cheer up! Hugs and kisses! :)

  13. Dearest Carolyn~
I am sorry my dear. How devastating that must have been.

I agree with Marsha...things are just not made the way they used to be.

  15. My mother always said to say a prayer to St. Anthony and you will find what you have lost. It worked once for me...but not again. I actually found a dinner ring in the bottom of my ice machine! Three years later.

Shame on Cartier for not making a better product. It's very discouraging.

How often do you take the ferry across to the mainland? How long a ride and I hope you don't have to go far for groceries.

  16. That is a serious bummer about your watch and your ring.
Do you have an olive tree? green or black?
I hope you find your diamond..

  17. Oh, I am so sad about your ring, that is very difficult. And that beautiful watch costing so much to repair. I will say a prayer that your diamond turns up in your home.

You know it may sound odd, but occasionally when I have misplaced something, I say a prayer when I go to sleep to find it. When I awaken in the morning the first thought that pops into my head sometimes leads me to where it has been lost.

  18. I am sorry to hear about your watch and diamond...I lost mine once too...sigh...on the brighter side of things I would sure be glad if I could pick Olives with you...that does sound like fun. Sending you some hugs for the rest of the week.

  19. Love your reds! I cannot believe you lost your diamond! I hope you find it. Don't give up my mom lost one and found it months later on the desk at work! We can hope it is at home!! And right after your silly watch broke!

  20. Oooh, I'm soooo sorry you lost the diamond, Carolyn!
It happened to me with the blue topaz in a ring my husband had given me... I was so sad. So I can understand how you feel. I had my topaz replaced with a cheaper stone, but exactly the same color of the original one... I am happy I can wear my ring again.
Hope you can find the diamond at home!!! Look well before doing the chores! ;)
    Hugs,

  21. Thank you Haute World ~ that is the thing, I have heard of other brands that have a 10 year guarantee!
Never mind, it was not any good if it was not working and I am sure we will sort the ring problem.

Many thanks Ni, for your visit and I am going to have to learn Italian.

Thank you Charity and thanks for your kind words. Sorry you lost a precious diamond from your earrings. I will get the diamond replaced.

Thanks Lulu, I agree, they do not make things like they used to.
You would have thought things like that would last a lifetime.

Thanks Janean, yes ruby red is always such a beautiful rich colour and one I love.

    Hi Barbara,

Oh how lucky you found a ring three years later!
Yes, it may turn up somewhere and I am keeping a look out.
I only go over to the City about once or twice a week and the ferry ride is 35 minutes.
We have actually been getting our groceries from the City, as the vegetables and fruit are much fresher and cheaper.

Many thanks Gwendolyn for your visit and kind comments.
We have green and black olives, just went to the Garden center and bought a few types, so it has been interesting seeing the different olives.

Thank you Karen, hopefully it will turn up somewhere around the home and will keep looking.
I think it might be outdoors somewhere though.

    Hi Koralee,

Oh that would be so much fun to have you come and pick olives with me. Thanks for your visit and kind words.

    Hi Lisa,

Not my week! but yes, not giving up as it might turn up.
Glad that your Mums ring turned up and I have heard of things like that.

  23. Hi Monica,

So sorry that this happened with your blue topaz and I know how it does make you feel sad.
I think maybe it could have come out when I was picking the olives.
Thanks for your visit, dear friend.

    Hi Diane,

Thanks for your visit. This week is going well and I hope that you are having a good week too.

  26. Let me just say that sucks on both accounts!!!
I'm so sorry. I would think that a watch with that name would last much longer. As for the diamond, I'm told to have the prongs checked every so often. The same thing just happened to my sister inlaw, but she noticed it before the diamond had a chance to fall out.
Hope you are having a better day today.

Best of luck with the re-opening of your shop.

Many thanks Evi, and I am sure we can get the ring fixed.

    Hi Rosemary,

    Thanks for your visit.
Yes, I realize now that I probably should have had it checked.
Having a great day, have been for a walk and now will get on with some things here.

  33. That is really sad about the ring. I always fear for the diamond of my ring too but I guess, since the diamond is only put there through a glue or something, time would come that it would really come out.

But about the watch? I guess some brands are just making sure their product is going to last after the guarantee. Happened to some us ...

  35. Dear Carolyn, oh! It does sound so sad and so unfair!!! I understand very well how you can get upset when your favorite thing get broken...In Russia we actually believe that if something of a great value is lost it means that something of even greater value to come later into our life...I do not know if this little saying will make you feel better, but I hope it will.I am wishing you wonderful the rest of the week despite all this loses.:-)

    ReplyDelete
  36. Carolyn amor, I think you are absolutely correct, with something as expensive and a brand so well known and reputable...the watch shouldn't have broken like that, much less cost that much to repair :( I personally would send a Cartier a lovely little letter letting them know that too :) I am so sorry about your diamond amor, I will say a lil prayer that you find it, when I lost mine, it was years ago, when I was first married and I was at the college getting my classes assigned, I remember being in a panic because I didn't know how to tell my mama, it was her big beautiful diamond passed down to me...I couldn't believe it when we went all over the places we had been to and nothing, I was praying the whole time..dreading the conversation I would have to have soon with my mama, but when we went to the counselors office, I sat down ready to cry as my husband looked all around and under the chair I had been sitting at, when the lady got up, my husband found it there by the leg of the chair...I cried, told my mama and know what??? she took the diamond away lol after all that :) But it was for the best :) it is now my sisters and not my responsibility...sometimes beautiful things like that are too much for lil fru fru me :) I know you will find your diamond amor, probably when you least expect it :) Hope all is well really soon! Thinking of you! Besos, Rose

  37. Oh, you poor thing...Carolyn, I am so sorry. Wow, that is a lot of money to fix a watch! And the diamond..well, I guess you could have it replaced for a special anniversary present??? If you are like me, you hardly take them off and so things like that do eventually happen.

Hopefully, you can have a better week! I can taste the olives from here.

  40. Hi Jeanne,

Many thanks for your visit and kind words. Blessings to you.

    Thanks Gleenn,

I think it is a good idea to get your ring checked by a jeweler, because things do wear, with time.
    I should have done that.

    Thanks Carrie, for your visit.

    Dear Anya,

That is such a lovely Russian saying and I do think it is true.
thank you for sharing this with me and this did make me feel better.

    Oh Dear Rose,

So really glad that you found your diamond ring and did not have to tell your Mother it was lost.
Now at least you will not have to worry about the ring.
Thanks for your visit, dear friend.

Nancy, I am like you never take my rings off and in hindsight I probably should have taken it off when olive picking, because I have a feeling that is where it probably is. Have to keep looking.
Yes, the olives are good, and the smell was divine in the factory where I took them to be pressed.

    Hi Twila,

Ruby red is such a beautiful colour.
I am sorry that your dress, did not make this show, but I know next time yours will. Must have been fun anyway.

And, oh my God dear, lossing your diamond is a very bad new, and then the Cartier watch, it is not possible that they don´t afford the guarantee of it, they should, even over 2 years, don´t they??
Hope you find your diamond, perhaps at home... you´ll never know when things appear suddenly!!
    Take care my friend,

  48. Aww, Carolyn. I'm so sorry to hear this. I do hope that diamond turns up. Seems many people have lost their diamonds. Maybe I should start looking down more often. I lost a ring once of very high sentimental value. It was a delicate gold band made from my mother's gold fillings (a weird concept, I know). I was heartbroken and never found it. BUT you never know. You hear tales sometimes of lost items turning up many years down the road....

About watch repairs. So incredibly frustrating, I know. My husband had a collection of fine watches. Little did I know that fine watches are like fine automobiles -- they need constant adjustment and repair (all those little gears and lubrication, etc), and over a lifetime, you could easily spend as much as the original cost of the watch in repairs alone. It was an eye opening lesson.

So sorry that you lost a ring that was of very high sentimental value.

How wonderful that your husband had a collection of fine watches.
I suppose like everything, they need maintenance.
