The September Issue

On Monday Evening, my daughter and I were invited to a VIP screening of the Award winning documentary ~ The September Issue. We started off the evening with a glass of champagne and canapes and mixed and mingled with other folk that had a love for Fashion.

This was a lovely movie about the formidable Anna Wintour, the legendary Editor of American Vogue magazine for twenty years.
The September Issue takes you, the viewer inside a world that you only think you know about.
The film follows her team of larger than life editors and photographers, as they create the September Issue. This is the biggest and most important of the year, because of New York and Paris Fashion week.
It shows Wintour's relationship with the incredibly captivating Grace Coddington (who
was a former Model) the magazines creative director, who we see dressing the models, reshooting already perfectly shot spreads and asserting herself against Anna.
We see images of Anna as a Mother to daughter, beautiful Bee Shaffer.
Bee's dismissal of the world of Fashion that is her Mothers entire raison d'etre.
Anna's love for her daughter is made quietly but abundantly clear, despite her decision to go to Law school, instead of Fashion.
I always thought that Anna was an American and got a surprise when I heard her speak with a British accent.

An intimate, funny and surprising look at the very glamorous Anna Wintour.
I'm happy to report that the audience wasn't disappointed and I really enjoyed this movie and had such a fun night out. Armed with our lovely goody bags we raced in a taxi to the 10.15pm ferry and annoyingly missed it by 5 minutes and had to go and get a hot chocolate and dessert and wait until the 11.45 pm ferry.
We were both tired but it is always fun to have a night out.

  13. You both look as if you've stepped out of that movie! :)

Anne Wintour shocked me (really shocked me) when she walked out on Karl Lagerfeld's fashion show. After that, I never forgot her name!!!!

  14. Dearest Carolyn,
This would have been a delightful evening out!!!! Would have loved it.
Even though you missed your float, it sounds like hot chocolate would soothe the soul as you had extra time with your daughter.
    God bless,
    d

  15. What a fun evening, even if it was late (but you did get hot chocolate and dessert :-) ). I read an article about the movie last weekend and thought it would be great to see. Thanks for adding your own perspective - I'll put it on my rental list!

  16. thanks very much for visiting Lisa, always lovely to hear from you.

    Hi Dolores,

Yes, not much fun when you miss it by 5 minutes and then have to wait so long for the next one.
We were both very tired too.

    Hi Charity,

I did not know that she had walked out on Karl Lagerfelds show.
That seems like awfully bad manners doing that.

    Hi Deanna,

Yes, dessert and chocolate did soothe the soul and helped to pass the time of the evening.
We did have a fun Girls night out.

    Hi Sharon,

I loved it and I hope that if you get it out as a rental you will too.
If you like reading Vogue, I think you will like to see the background to putting it all together.
Also I found Anna Wintour to be a fascinating person and obviously very clever at what she does.
She was born in 1949 which makes her 60.

    Hugs
    Carolyn

  40. So glad you both enjoyed this movie Carolyn. You are lucky to have a daughter to go with. Hell would freeze over first before MOTH or any of the 5 boys would join me to see Ms. Wintour do her thing! I'm trying to make a time to stay in the City after work one night soon to go & see this alone -sniff, sniff.
    Millie ^_^

  41. Oh Millie,

I wished you could have come with us.
My husband would be the same. He does not like shows like Project Runway and the likes, he will go and watch a movie on his computer.
