Floral Friday

Thank you, to Trishie from the lovely blog, under lock and key for asking me to contribute to her new blog series,  Floral Friday.

It  is all about fun and taking the time to smell the flowers.
This months theme is ' a new bloom'

Here is my contribution

This is the photo of the blossom on the  French variety of apple tree my Father gave us, not long before he passed away.

We found a place in the garden to plant the tree and we were so happy when it produced its first small crop of apples ... four, juicy, crunchy apples that I must say were delicious.

It is a poignant reminder to me of my father who had a long life and was an avid gardener.

Despite some of the driest summers in many years the tree continues to thrive and flourish and punches above its weight producing 4 - 5 apples on a tree that is less than a metre in height.

It reminds me of him and his gardening skills and his tenacity in dealing with what life sometimes throws at us all.

A little inspiration in my own garden and something tangible by which to remember my dad.

Best wishes to you all  Carolyn.

One red apple

Today, I will miss celebrating my Fathers birthday ~ 9th of March was his birth date.
I miss my Dad everyday and honour him for being the best Father in the world.

The day is sweet though, for me because my small tree has yielded one little apple.
We brought the tree back in a bucket from my Parents home and transplanted it in our garden.
I will be able to share a quarter each, with my family.
Dad would have been happy.

I wish you all a wonderful day
Hugs

An apple a day

There is something really special to me, about my little apple tree.
Not long before my Father went into hospital he had planted this new French apple tree in his garden. He had a wonderful garden and used to spend most of his days out there.
After Dad died and the house was sold, my Mother moved into the Rest Home.
We took the tree back to our place in a bucket with rich soil and replanted it and I hoped that with our poor soil and the lack of rain over Summer, that it would grow well.

Now I am not the green fingered sort like some of my friends, Celestina Marie, June and Maria Cecilia come to mind.
Alas I went out one day and all that was standing was some twiggy branches.
Had I killed off this lovely apple tree?
Well to my delight a few weeks later, I could see some tiny green leaves shooting forth and then a few days later the sweet white blossom.
Hopefully one day I will be able to go down and pick ripe, crisp and juicy apples from the tree.

Sending out wonderful wishes for a beautiful weekend to you all.
Hugs
Carolyn
