I hope your holidays have been lovely and a little break away from the normal routine, has been relaxing.
Now that Christmas has all been put away for another year, it is a good feeling to have the house clean again. I must admit though, I feel a little sad having to pack all the Christmas decorations back in the boxes.
Here are a few little things that made me smile over the past week
The big fat Kereru {wood pigeon} was happy to sit on the railings of the deck and enjoy the early morning with us. When we had cats the birds would not come anywhere near the house, but now often we have tuis drinking out of the guttering and fantails flitting happily about. There have even been a family of Kaka, a large Native parrot living down in the bush and often at dusk you can see and hear them flying about making a loud screeching noise.
Prada is coming to Waiheke! I think not! ... found that it was a hoax by someone celebrating over the New Year. The story goes that over maybe a few too many glasses of Veuve Clicquot, someone thought it a good idea to have a signwriter make a sign for the window.
The building called Crockers store, used to be a pet store and one day we took the children out when they were small to have a look at the animals. My DH saw a little rat in the cage and put his finger to pat it - the little chap took a nip at his finger with razor sharp teeth and was very painful.
The blue of the sky and sea, was beautiful on our drive out to Onetangi
Lastly this sweet dog sitting in the car and peering out the window, made me smile when I was walking down busy Queen Street
I hope 2016 is off to a wonderful start.
May it bring much joy and peace your way
hugs
Carolyn
Hello dear Carolyn!
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun post... I had never seen a wood pigeon before.. He is absolutely beautiful... Oh dear, what a sad joke to put out, Prada! Oh well. I hope your DH's little fingers are ok.. Yes, those little rats have teeth like razors.. Well, except Bebe, but of course she is a gentle mouse.
That is some Jeep! The sweet dog inside looks like a Jack Russel..
Thanks for the great share, and always being so kind to visit me.
blessings,
Penny
Wishing you a very healthy, happy new year!

Dear friend, thank you for your e-mail, you are so understanding and sweet, ...but something will happen :-)

Happy New Year my friend! Thank you so much very much for your lovely card. Was such a nice surprise. I need to manage my time better. I seem to lose a lot of time lately. Oh, no, when a gopher bit my sisters years ago when she was little they had to test the gopher for rabies. Thankfully all was well. xoxo Marsha

Dearest Carolyn,
ReplyDeleteThat was a refreshing and interesting update. Yes those big size birds can cause quite a lot of noise. People not living out in your part of the world have no idea how that can be!
Sending you hugs,
Mariette
Dear Carolyn,
ReplyDeleteIt is so nice to have the birds coming close for a visit! We have wood pigeons here, too, but they are very shy. That is a fun story about the Prada sign. Glad that you had a lovely Christmas and all the best in the New Year.
Hugs xo Karen

Carolyn, we have lots of pigeons around here, but this one is so pretty. I can see why you enjoyed it when sitting out on your deck. This picture of the sea is so lovely. I have been missing the ocean lately, but got a chance to see it when I visited Jess recently. Don't ya just love it when dogs are curious and poke their heads out of cars, it's so cute.
ReplyDeleteHave a terrific week, Carolyn.
love, ~Sheri

Oh I loved that pretty picture of the sky and sea and the pigeon looked very comfortable relaxing there on the rail. We also have something in common because I would have smiled, too at the dog in the car and even at the painted car. It's the little things that warm my heart.
ReplyDeleteHugs... :)
I was fortunate to visit New Zealand in the 70's and visit Onetangi ... what a beautiful blue that sea and sky are.
ReplyDeleteAll the best Jan
Onetangi looks stunning.
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year Carolyn :)
What a cute dog :)
