The Dior plaque
I have walked past these plaques on a building in Auckland many times and have always wondered what Dior was doing here in our City, so far away from Paris.
So I did a little research and found that the Kingston building was the heart of ~ El Jay fashion house established by Gus Fisher.
Mr Fisher, who passed away in 2010, would travel to Paris and bring back the latest designs and fabrics creating elegant Pret A Porter garments.
He was proud to hold a license deal with Christian Dior manufacturing and selling Dior originals in New Zealand.
Christian Dior was quoted saying, "We were emerging from the period of war, of uniforms of women-soldiers built like boxers.
I drew women - flowers, soft shoulders, fine waists like liana and wide skirts like corolla
Happiness is the secret to all beauty.
There is no beauty without happiness
~ Christian Dior
Hope that you are having a lovely week - almost time, to wish you a happy weekend
hugs
Carolyn

Happy weekend...love Ria...x!
ReplyDeleteOh, I love to have bits from other far away (or not so far) Countries, Towns, Cultures...
ReplyDeleteEveryday I take the subway when leaving work and I enter a Station through an entrance that is decorated like the Subway's Station Entrance at Pigalle in Paris. It makes me smile. A bit of Paris does that to you. It has a plaque saying that it was a gift from Paris to Lisbon and it is a work from Architect Hector Guimard. It's delightful to have those bits. At least for me. For a few moments we travel in mind and spirit and it lifts us up. And when we search about we end up lost in a world of information which I also love and crave.
Hope all is well with you. Be Well,
Teresa
