The dress code has sparked a ton of backlash at the Cannes Film Festival.
What an outrage to hear that "women must wear high heels on the Red Carpet" and they were said to be breaking the dress code by wearing flats and indeed, some were turned away.
I find this appalling to dictate what is to be worn ... the comfort factor, and choice should be up to the women attending.
What do you think about this?...
do you think Ladies should have to topple along wearing uncomfortable shoes or should commonsense reign and be able to wear what suits them.
Many thanks for the kind birthday wishes you sent me - I appreciate each and every one and look forward to coming over to visit you.
Have a happy week
hugs
Carolyn
I think it is ridiculous to take it that far.....that is like deciding the length of a ladies dress....I can understand keeping it formal by you can still do that with flats! And this mama doesn't do heels as they hurt my feet! Have a great week buddy! Nicole xo
ReplyDeleteWhat is even more ridiculous is that a woman that had her foot amputated and does not wear high heels was turned away!
ReplyDeleteDear Carolyn,
ReplyDeleteI have seen this in the news yesterday, this is so stupid .....;O)
Wishing you a wonderful rest of the week, my dear friend,
sending much Love and hugs,
Claudia xo
Shoes are really a unique item…still loving going barefooted.
ReplyDeleteAt any rate shoes are wonderful,
d
Dearest Caroyn,
ReplyDeleteWell, as a rule of thumb you never actually wear flats with evening gowns. So a low(er) heel would be the safe option for comfort! But for entirely dictating what kind of heels to wear is really appalling!
Hugs,
Mariette
Oops: Carolyn of course!
DeleteOh Goodness......that's just silly. If a woman like to wear heals .. she should wear them! If heals aren't your thing, wear flats! It's just personal and there should not be rules about make up, hair, or dress because we are all unique and have different body types.
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful Thursday Carolyn. You may receive two comments from me. I'm not sure that my first went through! xxleslie
Lucky that i am not a movie star :)
ReplyDeletethat heels are easy to stumble in.
It is probably a bit too much
Love/AM
And who is to tell what is a "high" heel in any case. Anything over an inch and I would be tripping up and they wouldn't want me falling down on their red carpet!! I thought this was crazy. Sorry I missed saying Happy Birthday - so Happy Birthday!!! Just extend the celebrations a little!! xx
ReplyDeleteGood for you dear - I entirely agree - perhaps if the men had to wear them too xxx
ReplyDeleteThere can be a dresscode, but you can't force someone to wear uncomfortable shoes. Flat shoes can be very fashionable too.
ReplyDeleteThanks for your visits and your kind words.........I am glad you had a lovely birthday. Me I wear shoes for comfort now. Love and hugs'
ReplyDeleteJeanne
it is not only about comfort-some styles go well with flats! What a stupid decision!
ReplyDeleteI laughed over shoegate. How ridiculous to say they couldn't wear flats. I messed up my feet when I was young and our heels back then didn't hold a candle to the height they are now!
ReplyDeleteLow heels and flats are IN!
(Happy May to you, Carolyn!)
I prefer heels but that dress code is absurd!
ReplyDeletexoxox,

Basically I think everyone should wear what wants and is appropriate, still guess every woman would look at her best in these occasions, and normally heels help!
ReplyDeleteAnyway they take that definitely too far: if someone looks amazing and elegant with flats, why not? ;)

I think just like you, Carolyn...each should be allowed to wear what they find comfortable , a flaT shoe can be as beautiful and fancy as a high heal one.
ReplyDeleteI wonder if men are turned away if they wear something else than the norm!!!!
Happy weekend dear friend.
Hugs,Dorthe
I think it's a very silly rule. I was so happy when I stopped working and could then stop wearing high heels! I can't stand wearing them. They look lovely with many outfits and gowns, and maybe would be the best choice for the look, but I don't think it should be required.
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday, Carolyn! Ok, well, first I must say that I adore heels! Just adore the way they look. However, I cannot really wear them anymore, they kill my back and I don't think that anyone should have the right to dictate what kind of shoe you must wear. I agree with the comment above, formal can still be accomplished in flats!
ReplyDeleteHope you had a wonderful birthday! The dress code seems a little odd, but perhaps, it is an attempt to keep the red carpet formal. As long as they aren't mandating heels 4 inches and above, celebrities could still wear high heels but not destroy their feet. Although it would be very funny if they started measuring ladies' heel heights...
ReplyDeleteI love shoes and i like very much the flats but they are unconfortable. So i prefer heels!
ReplyDeleteHugs

Hi Carolyn, I was shocked to see this on the news today. It is just crazy to tell women they must wear heels to walk the red carpet. It should be one's own preference and comfort even with dressing up formally.
ReplyDeleteGlad you had a nice birthday.
Hugs and Blessings, CM
Happy birthday! Even though I'm a few days late.... I hope you had a most marvelous celebration. Yes, I heard about the high heels fiasco! So awful. I wonder if the gents had any fashion laws to follow. Have a great weekend!
ReplyDeleteHi dear Carolyn !!! Que tengas un bendecido fin de semana
ReplyDeleteCariños
Carolyn,
ReplyDeleteI love the way high heels look, but I can't wear the tall skinny heel any longer. I do, however, manage to wear a small heel with boots and some sandals. I think there is more of a selection of dressy heels out there lately that can work with nice gatherings that we have to go to.
love, ~Sheri
Dear Carolyn,
ReplyDeleteHappy belated birthday! I hope you and your family had a lovely time celebrating.
My daughters told me what happened in Cannes. I agree with you. I don't understand why women wearing flats weren't allowed in.....
Wishing you a lovely weekend!

The height of heels should surely be a personal choice?
ReplyDeleteI have noticed that with each decade the height of my heels has diminished - don't know if others may experience this.
Comfort to me is now key.
Have a good weekend
All the best Jan
I thought this was ridiculous. The choice should be down to the individual.
ReplyDeleteI could never walk in heels like those - give me comfort everyday - no red carpet coming my way - thank goodness
ReplyDeleteGosh, what next? Foot binding?!
ReplyDeleteI remember when I wore 3" heels every day! I think I would last about five minutes now.
Happy Belated Birthday, Carolyn - it looks like you were justly spoiled!
ReplyDeleteI suppose if I were invited to walk the red carpet at Cannes, :) the inconvenience of wearing heels might not be such a big thing, but then again, I would most likely fall flat on my face, so I think heels should be banned for safety reasons! xo Karen
