Where have all the flowers gone?
Have always loved the sweet old fashioned, favourite flowers like violets, cornflowers, viola, nasturtium and marigolds to name a few and they are not only pretty to look at, they are also great for culinary use. Just make sure they have not come into contact with spray or herbicides.
Have read that edible flowers were especially popular back in the Victorian era.
A scattering of flowers over a dish or mixed in with a green salad is a good way to add some interest and colour to a meal.
When at last I took the time to look into the heart of a flower, it opened up a whole new world; a world where every country walk would be an adventure, where every garden would become an enchanted one
~ Princess Grace of Monaco
We had a lovely Easter weekend and spent a wonderful time with our DD home. Lots of long walks out in the glorious sunshine, delectable food, {Victoria cooked a delicious dinner one evening} and hot cross buns from the oven and not to forget the chocolate.
Just as well Easter comes around only once a year.
Thank you for your kind notes you left me - I am feeling well now after a touch of the flu. Also appreciate the new followers to my blog, merci beaucoup.
It is almost the weekend! time to kick off your shoes and relax now
I hope that you enjoy the weekend
hugs
Carolyn

Glad you are feeling better. I don't think that I have ever eaten a flower, another thing to try someday! xx
ReplyDeleteGlad you are feeling better. The flowers are lovely but I have a hard time thinking of them as edible. Though I did have something recently at a French restaurant that did have flowers (forget which kind) and it was perfectly fine. Have a wonderful weekend. Tammy
ReplyDeleteFlowers in there many colours are lovely to look at ...... but nowadays chefs are using them in cooking too.

Good evening dear Carolyn,
ReplyDeleteHappy to hear you are feeling better.
I love Nasturtiums and violets.. I use to grow both, but they do not do well here. I did taste the leaf of the nasturtium.. Had a pepper taste as I recall. My neighbor use to put them on her salads.
Wishing you a beautiful week.
Penny

Sorry I am a bit behind in catching up with posts! I have like adding flowers to a salad. I was reading the other day about eating daises - they are meant to have a nutty flavour have you tried them? Sarah x
ReplyDeleteHi Sarah,
DeleteNo have not tried daisies but would like to try them - a nutty flavour sounds good. Thanks for your visit.
