The sweeter things
After we had dined at a lovely little Italian Restaurant for lunch on Saturday afternoon, daughter and our friends said this was a must place to go and visit while we were in Melbourne.
So off we went,... peering through the front window attracted my attention with the most amazing cakes and I felt like a small child in a candy store.
Into Brunetti, we walked which is one of the most iconic places to indulge in delicious Italian style coffee, decadent cake from the Pasticceria, delicious gelato or a tempting savoury from the Paninoteca.
To be honest though, lately we have made a decision to forgo eating sugar, after reading the book, Pure White and Deadly by John Yudkin. A treat for me is a small piece of dark chocolate occasionally when I am feeling like something to eat after dinner.
But every so often it is nice to just have one day off a week when it does not matter - so today was the day.
The macarons and fancy cakes all looked almost too pretty to eat and deciding which ones we would taste was a dilemma.
I opted for a lemon gelato, the intense creamy flavour was really delicious
This is the perfect place to visit especially if you have a sweet tooth.
I wish you a happy weekend
hugs
Carolyn

What utterly beautiful creations! The colours, shapes and decorations are all so perfect. Not to mention delicious. I could spend all day in there.
ReplyDeleteHave a great weekend
Hello Carolyn
ReplyDeleteThe sweet shoppe looks lovely and what pretty cakes! Good for you... I need to get off sugar but will have to wait until Sept when we get home as there is just way too many sweets here I want to try. Have a great weekend.
Wanda
Yes, sometimes you just have to indulge and enjoy the moment. I certainly did that in the States this summer. The rest of the time, I don't use much sugar at all as I opt to use alternatives such as maple syrup or even dates and bananas to naturally sweet things. :) Have a wonderful weekend. Tammy
ReplyDeleteOoooo yummy :)
ReplyDeleteI am a sweet tooth and I love sweet treat so much *•*
Happy hugs x
And what a treat it is to once in a while indulge in something you love. Yes, I've read many an article about white sugar and flour; I've given up on the flour and the sugar (as much as I can) but sugar is found in almost ANYTHING that is packaged! What a joy for you however, to catch up with your daughter and enjoy the sights. All the walking will take care of the extra treat!
ReplyDeleteHave a lovely weekend sweet Carolyn! Anita
I have a very sweet tooth and this was therefore the perfect post for me. I can just imagine how long it would take me to choose one or more of those sweet treats. Macarons are a particular favourite of mine. Recently I have been reading about Melbourne and it has so much to offer. I know that I would love it!
ReplyDeleteOh Carolyn, remind me not to go there, it would be toooo tempting for me. Coffee and a piece of that chocolate cake and I would be in heaven.
ReplyDeleteHugs Kay
Dear Carolyn!
ReplyDeleteThanks for this delicious post.
I know Brunetti from Dubai.
I am happy that you had such a lovely time with your daughter.
Happy weekend my Sweet!
With love,
Geli
You are so right about the dangers opt white sugar. dark chocolate (more than 70%) is a good alternative occasionally.
ReplyDeleteEven so, those cakes and macaroons and other treats look so yummy!
Hola amiga querida ! Que dulce y bella tentación ... Que tenga un óptimo fin de semana

Oh my goodness do all of those beautiful desserts look delicious!!!!! We have a sweet tooth in our neck of the woods but try to be aware of sugar as well. But I must say you only live once and if I walked by this store front you can bet I would walk in for a treat!!! I hope you are having a lovely weekend!!! Nicole xo
ReplyDeleteDearest Carolyn,
ReplyDeleteEven I had a day off on Saturday evening. We dined at our authentic Italian resaurant. They are also dear friends. But you are so right about sugar and people should become more conscious about it. NO refined sugar and reading labels. Agave nectar and coconut sugar are a far healthier substitutes with a lower Glycemic Index.
Sending you hugs and it was a pleasure to see these Italian desserts; like being back in the country...

ReplyDeleteCarolyn, this sweet shop would be a dream for me, as I love chocolate! I have been staying away from too much sugar also, but every now and then, I'll treat myself to some See's candy close by. These cakes look amazing, and the macarons look colorful and yummy. I can see why you had a hard time choosing what to try. These are the little places that bring a smile to our face. Thanks for sharing.

Lemon gelato sounds delicious though it must have been a hard decision to make with all these yummy sweet treats in the store.
ReplyDeleteWhat a variety of cakes.
ReplyDeleteHi Dear Carolyn, what pretty sights to see in these yummy desserts. I too try and stay away from sugar and all flours with gluten. It has changed my life to be gluten free but much harder with sugar as it is in everything. A treat now and again I think is okay and especially as you would be walking it off. Sounds like a special time with your daughter.
ReplyDeleteThank you for stopping by while I was on my vacation. I have enjoyed catching up with you today and happy to be home again.
Hugs and Blessings~
Yum. Everything looks so amazing.
ReplyDeleteIt all looks decadently delicious, Carolyn! Like you, I have been reading a lot about the horrible, unhealthy effects of sugar and for this sweet toothed blogger, it's been challenging trying to wean myself off it, not all together, small steps, that is, but mostly store bought treats. I am baking once a week, muffins or a loaf of seasonal fruity fare. Your lemon gelato sounds scrumptious! Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Poppy

ReplyDeleteEverything looks so delicious. How did you choose? I would have wanted to sample everything!
ReplyDeleteThe cakes look gorgeous. I've decided to give up sugar in my tea and coffee. I'm trying to eat more fresh fruit although sometimes it's nice to have a sweet treat.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful Carolyn - I need a foodie trip away!!
ReplyDeleteIt's a while since I've been to Melbourne -I know it's a great destination for us!
You have a special incentive for a trip, to meet up with your DD - I'm sure she is in her element there.
