Harbinger of Spring is the sight of daffodils, freesias, birds building nests, (once again the window box outside our sons bedroom makes a temporary home for a little family.)
September is officially the start of Spring here in New Zealand, but you would not think so as today it is cold and wet.
Signs of spring are in the air, and out walking I picked a bunch of freesias that were growing on the roadside. The intoxicating smell on the kitchen windowsill is gorgeous and even doing jobs like washing the dishes, seems more pleasant.
These Gucci shoes were displayed in the window of the Fabric shop that I went into last week.
They were worn by Lady Gaga during the final show of the Monster Ball tour in Mexico City.
Autographed by her, they were put up for auction for a fund raising telethon to help Christchurch after the earthquake.
Lady Gaga gave strict instructions to the Rise up Charity team for Christchurch "Make sure they raise heaps of money and go to someone fabulous"
Ps. Two years ago today, 4th September was when the first earthquake struck Christchurch, and still there are difficult times for so many people living there. Rebuilding and getting back to normality is slowly happening and we hope that life can be better for the people of Christchurch.
I wish you a wonderful new week
Hugs
Carolyn

ReplyDeleteThe flowers are outstanding and I wish these were just outside my window to enjoy. Please enjoy these beauties for me as our Autumn is creeping in. I hope our temps stay in the 70s for a long Indian Summer.

ReplyDeleteHi Carolyn,
ReplyDeleteSo glad you are seeing signs of spring. I can relate to your comment about the wet weather you are experiencing.. Here is Seattle we have rain and gray skies until the first part of July. As soon as the summer sales start and fall clothes come in.. our weather gets nice! I've always got flowers in my house (year round) to brighten my day. Great photos!

it is strange for me to think you are starting your spring and me our autumn :)
ReplyDeleteHi Carolyn, Your flowers for the window sill are just gorgeous and I love the scent of Freesia too. Hard to believe how fast the seasons are running by. We need it to cool off, as it is still very hot here.
ReplyDeleteHow quickly the years have passed since the earthquake. I hope those awesome shoes made lots of dollars in the fund raiser.
Enjoy your springtime my friend as we look forward to Fall days hopefully soon!!!
Hugs, Celestina Marie
Dear Carolyn,
ReplyDeleteThat is so nice that the shoes will go up for auction to help after the earthquake. It is spring where you are, and Fall is coming for us. Today, Sept 4 is my brother's birthday. He passed away many years ago at the young age of 53. Your beautiful yellow flowers made me smile and think of him. Thank you.

I love Gaga, what a kind heart that girl has! Listened to a fascinating talk by the Director of ICU at Christchurch Hosp. at a conference last week. He talked about how the ED/ICU coped on the day of the Feb earthquake. Lots of valuable lessons learnt. The brave Engineers who kept the diesel generators going in the Hospital's basement to maintain the power supply are the quiet heroes. They didn't return to their own homes & families for over 24 hrs.

So lovely to have spring ahead, imagine that we has the same weather right now. But here we have the fall.
ReplyDeleteHave a nice evening
Hugs

I'm not a great fan of Lady Gaga, but think that was a lovely gesture, Carolyn.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful daffys!
Dear Carolyn,
ReplyDeleteI wish you and your family a wonderful start to spring. It's so strange to think that we are enjoying the last days of summer and preparing for autumn.
Freesias are divine, aren't they? Such a beautiful scent and I cannot believe you are lucky enough to have them growing on the verge of your roads.
Stephanie

Daffodils are a wonderful flag for the season of renewal. I hope the weather changes and you get a lovely spring.
ReplyDeleteHard to believe it's been that long - like so many things, it's all you hear about in the news for a few days or even a week and then nothing - no follow up or anything, just the odd story now and again. I hope it gets better soon - it cannot have been easy....
Fall and Spring are my favorite times of the year -- not too hot, not too cold a smell of change in the air -- unfortunately, we have mostly summer temps all year long. Those freesia are so beautiful - can't imagine anything that beautiful just growing on the side of the road. Not much is growing here at the moment ... still hot, 111 degrees right now. Hope you have a lovely weekend. Tammy
ReplyDeleteHi Carolyn,
ReplyDeleteenjoy your spring! These flowers are very lovely!
I'm waiting for autumn, my favorite season!
Kisses
Monique
Hello my dear,
