It was like stepping back in time, where we stayed at the Royal Automobile Club, while in Sydney.
The evening we arrived, we walked along the red carpet, and felt like how movie stars must feel, going to a special event. Only to be told that a wedding was taking place later on.
Well it seemed special while it lasted and we were free to dream.
Situated right near Circular Quay, we looked out towards the busy harbour with boats coming and going all the time and the trains rumbled along the tracks close by and we could see the Harbour bridge out the window, this was a fun place to stay .
Double glazed glass is wonderful, making our bedroom very quiet, with all the noise going on outside.

Come inside and I will show you around... the grand lounge was magnificent and I loved the sparkly chandelier and the gorgeous glass dome ceiling |
The photos really do not this gorgeous place justice, as everything was so ornate and on a grand scale.
Here is the elaborately adorned ceiling which I think looked like it may have been made from pressed tin.Next I will show you the reading room and a few more photos, from around Sydney.
I am now going to go back, to stripping some more of the old wallpaper off the lounge walls. When we did the wallpapering all those years ago, we made sure that it was going to last and stay put!
Happy weekend, dear friends
Hugs
Carolyn
Oh, wow, how beautiful!!! Such grandeur *sigh*
ReplyDeleteHa ha, well, you did a great job putting the wallpaper up!! Stripping wallpaper is not fun . . . but it will be well worth it once you get it off and paint!!

Dearest Carolyn,
ReplyDeleteWhat a joy to read that you have stayed there! On Monday, August 30, 1993 we had dinner there with friends. That trip we made because Pieter did lecture at the Conference Centre in Darling Harbour. The Royal Automobile Club is at 89 Macquarie Street in Sydney...
Thanks for bringing back fond memories from Sydney!!!
Love to you,
Mariette

Well, the photos are gorgeous, and if you say they do not do the place justice, then WOW! I think I could have stayed indoors all day just to stare at that ceiling.

Hi Carolyn, What a treat to stay in such an elegant place – the view must have been mesmerizing. And then to return to stripping wallpaper – well, that's how life goes, isn't it? :) Hoping this finds you very well and taking a relaxing break now and then from the renovations. xo – g

So glad you had a lovely trip. I hope I have the opportunity to visit Australia one day. And you're right that the camera just doesn't do justice to some extraordinarily beautiful things - even nature. Some things we just have to enjoy in our hearts. And thanks for your well wishes for my mom. Tough weekend, but time heals most things so I'm hopeful she'll feel better soon.
