The Reader
Jean-Honore Fragonard ~ 1732-1806
Fragonard was a French Artist and a prolific painter who left a large body of work. His style seems to be the embodiment of the Rococo era.
I love this well known painting, of a thoughtful girl reading.
I Can Read With My Eyes Shut!
Dr. Seuss
I can read in red. I can read in blue.
I can read in pickle color too.
I can read in bed, and in purple. and in brown.
I can read in a circle and upside down!
I can read with my left eye. I can read with my right.
I can read Mississippi with my eyes shut tight!
There are so many things you can learn about.
But…you'll miss the best things
If you keep your eyes shut.
The more that you read, the more things you will know
The more that you learn, the more places you'll go.
If you read with your eyes shut you're likely to find
That the place where you're going is far, far behind
SO…that's why I tell you to keep your eyes wide.
Keep them wide open…at least on one side.

Hello Carolyn,
ReplyDeleteI received a very special packaage today!!! (I sent you an email)
When I was a child I was such an avid reader. My dad would find me in bed under the covers with a flashlight reading when I was supposed to be asleep :)
xxoo
Marsha
Thanks Marsha, have just sent you an email.
ReplyDeleteSounds familiar with the torch under the blankets, reading, when I should have been asleep.

Carolyn
Dearest Carolyn,
ReplyDeleteAMEN to that! I've been a fervent reader when I was a child and always. We have so many books in our home! But with the Internet, reading has become less I must confess. When we go on vacation, that means to us relaxing and READING...
Love to you,
Mariette
Dear Carolyn
ReplyDeleteSo nice your post! I can read your beautiful post ;-)
Have a great week!

Dear Carolyn,
ReplyDeletewhat a lovely post!
This picture is one of my favorites and I also love reading - only I don't have time enough at the moment. When I was young, I was reading lots of books during a month! Now the books are waiting for wintertime to read them ....
Have a lovely day,
sending love and hugs my friend,
Claudia

Reading is still (and always has been) one of my favorite ways to spend free time. Fortunately, my three children feel the same way. We always have a book in hand.

As a former teacher, I thought I'd read all of Dr. Seuss's work, but not this one. I will share with the reading tutors at my church.

This is a stunning painting of The Reader!! Though I have heard of Jean Honore Fragonard, I've never seen this particular work, so thank you very much for leading the way, Carolyn!
ReplyDeleteThe gift of reading comprehension came late to me. I was age 25 and I consider this gift , one the two biggest miracles of my life. Books allow us to get lost in another world and wake up anew. Books have the power to teach new ideas, even change a life. Books can connect like-minded people. How sweet it is to savor a good book!
Hugs to you!!

What a shame most kids don't even know how to read anymore..... We kids so loved it when our Mom read to us...and when I learned to read...I read to the other kids... and then went to school and showed off a bit because I could already read.... I loved reading! Still do...but, don't seem to find much time to do so now ...what with other crafting and things... I really need to try those books on tape (or whatever they are on these days) and enjoy somebody reading to me while doing some crafting...what fun it would be to have somebody read to me again....
ReplyDeleteI tried to get the girl at the physio place to read to me while lying there with the fluctuating current thingy strapped to my arm... she said... I can't really read...that's why I went into Kinesiology...huh...? how did she learn the terminology and get through the course? ...hmmmm... maybe she meant she just doesn't like to read. What a shame......
Hi Carolyn,
ReplyDeleteSuch a lovely post. Reading is a lifetime of delight!
