Telling the time

Country Home & Interiors.
It is three o'clock and I am wondering where the day has gone!
Do you ever have days like this?
I have always had a fascination with sundials.
As a small girl, I used to go across to the Domain and we would love to go and tell the time from the sundial that was in the middle of the park and gardens. This used to be a favourite place to go to.
Stonehenge ~ amazing that this was used as a calender and for telling the time, all those years ago.
Alfrescoliving

I was reading in a book the other day how the makers of sundial inscriptions in days gone by tended to include rather serious thoughts such as The shadow passes, the light remains.

Another favourite sundial motto,
Let others tell of storms and showers, I'll only count the sunny hours.

I had a lovely weekend, albeit went a little too quickly.
Yesterday our daughter had some friends over for lunch and so my husband and I went out to a lovely vineyard Restaurant. I will share some photos as it was a beautiful place and we were able to walk home afterwards.
I hope that you have had a wonderful weekend and now I want to wish you a great week.

Hugs
Carolyn

  1. Hi Carolyn!

Oh, yes, I have days like that!

It sounds like you and your hubby had a wonderful day. I can't wait to see your pictures! At this time of the year Richard and I pack a picnic and go visit the local vineyards. It's one of my favorite things to do, a little get away from the hustle and bustle.

Yes, it was a lovely afternoon out in the sun but ended up eating too much, so it was good to walk home.

  8. I have too many days like that. Unfortunately, I'm not dressed nearly as nice as her, and I'm definitely not in my dream formal garden.

Sundials are romantic. I never read the inscriptions, but I shall make a note of doing so.

    Have a fantastic week!

  11. Many thanks Millie, for your visit.
To tell the time on a sundial, is by the movement of the shadow that a pointer casts upon the dial, which marks the hours of the day.

Many thanks Lola and Nora, and I hope that you are having a great week.

    Hi Lulu,

Glad I am not the only one that wonders where my day has gone!

  31. Stonehenge has always fascinated me, how they came to create it and the uses they had for it. I was never quite sure how sundials worked but they are always a beautiful addition to a garden. The quotes you found were beautiful too. I hope you are having a terrific week Carolyn, full of sunshine!

    Hi Celestina Marie,

Many thanks for visiting, today as it is always lovely to hear from you and your sweet message you leave.
We are still having a drought over here, had a small shower of rain in the night. Hopefully this will be the last load of water we need to buy until next Summer.
The weather is still warm and I am still wearing shorts, around the house.

Thanks Rosemary for visiting me today, and will share the pictures soon.

    Hi Audrey,

I think everyone feels the same, the weekends go too quickly!
