Buckingham Palace

We left our quiet, leafy street in Belgravia early on Sunday morning and as it was close walking distance to Buckingham Palace we headed off.
Seems like many others had the same plan as already there were a huge group of people congregating,  armed with their cameras and snapping away.
I loved the tall, grand ornate gates, surrounding  Buckingham Palace and all the statues and monuments shining with gold in the sunlight

Peering through the gates we could see the Queens Guards, wearing full dress uniform of red tunics and bearskin hats. I read, when the Queen is in residence, there are four foot guards at the front of the Palace and when she is away there are two.

I was excited to see this statue had inscribed on the base
' The gift of New Zealand'

Walking back home we noticed around the perimeter of the grounds was a serious barbed wire fence to keep out undesirables.

I hope your week is going well
hugs
Carolyn

Such a gorgeous Buckingham Palace is! The tall gate is so beautiful. Yes, I see a lot of people visiting there. I went to travel abroad several times. All trips were with big tours and professional guides! Very safe but what a busy trip!!

  4. London has so much to see and do. I always feel slightly overwhelmed when I visit. Everything seems like a fairy tale. Buckingham Palace is certainly part of that feeling, and St James Park and The Mall. Lovely images!

  7. My week is going very well thank you Carolyn, hope yours is too. Why do we feel the need to peer in through those iron railings? What do we hope to see? I’ve been visiting London (occasionally) since I was a little girl, but I always feel I must go and have another look. I’m sure we see more on TV, but it’s just not the same. Loved your photos, thank you for sharing them. Barbara.

  8. Dearest Carolyn,
Even if at times it looks like a world of pomp and a surreal world, one can admire the architecture and the many talented people that created the art.
Glad you could manage this in walking distance!
    Hugs and happy weeks ending.
