While we were driving down country to visit family, I stopped to take a photo of the Matamata i-site. The information center on the main street is a clear indication of where you are, in prime middle earth territory.
Middle Earth is the fictional setting of the author J.R.R Tolkien and his fantasy writings of the Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit.
The Hobbiton movie set is just down the road, located on the most picturesque rolling hills, on private farmland.
If you are a fan of Lord of the Rings and the Hobbit you can take a guided tour around the movie set and see where it all happened.

Oh Wow Carolyn!
ReplyDeleteYou are so lucky to be able to visit the Hobbit village. The houses are adorable. I wished we had stayed in New Zealand, just bit longer so we could have visited the place. We were in Wellington when they were filming the first part of The Lord of The Rings. We saw them filming on Mount Victoria and saw Peter Jackson doing his food shopping in New World! ;-)
We just missed all the real excitment in Wellington after the film came out, as we moved to Australia. There were celabrations in the streets and a party at the Hobbit village.
It's lovely to see you and your photos. I'm not surprised they filmed in New Zealand, it's the most beautiful place!
Have a good weekend.
Jo.
xx
