Winter time

I look at the pretty bright sunflowers from last year and keep hoping that wonderful weather is just over the horizon.

With heavy rain, thunder and winds gusting up to 120 kilometers per hour, we dropped off the grid.
Tuesday evening the power went off and stayed off for 24 hours - came on again Wednesday evening.
So we sat listening to the radio, talking to each other by the flickering light from the candles that were around the room.  Snuggling into a cozy bed for an early night with the warmth from a hot water bottle was lovely.

You really know how much you rely on electricity, when you don't have it.
It makes for a lovely opportunity to contemplate all that is good in life when everything is back to normal and you can do laundry and have a shower.

I have done a very silly thing!
As many people have told me that they were having trouble leaving comments. Because I have comment moderation went through and started deleting the ones that had been already published.
Little did I know that the published messages  (about 2000) disappeared. So angry with what I have done with loosing all the lovely comments and do not know how to get them back. Does anyone know how I can retrieve them please?

Oh well, have a wonderful rest of the week
hugs
Carolyn

  1. Oh Carolyn, you have heavy rain and thunder there, and it was 106 degrees here the other day. Funny how our worlds are so far apart, but we seem so close at the same time. I'm so sorry you lost all your comments. It's no fun when our power goes out, but it was nice that you got to talk with eachother by candle light.

Have a lovely evening, Carolyn, and stay warm.

    love,
    ~Sheri

  2. Oh Carolyn! I don't know how to fix that but I hope that somebody does! And how cozy and fantastic to be without power for a bit! I find that it is always an unexpected time to just slow down like you said and be with your family! Though I am happy for you all that it came back on! Stay warm and a wonderful day to you! 3. I can't even imagine being without power for 24 hrs Carolyn. I'm just glad you were safe through the storms and made it through the fierce winds. We lost power for about 5 hours last month and it was so funny because I kept forgetting and would try to start the washer and go for a drink and then remember.
I'm so sorry about you losing all your comments. That's so sad. That is SO something I would do :))))
    sending hugs...

  4. Oh Carolyn, so sorry to hear about losing your comments. I wish I knew how to help you my sweet friend. And sorry you were without electricity for 24 hrs. A couple of years ago we lost ours for about 12 hrs...You're right, we really don't know how much we rely on it until it's gone. Stay warm my friend...(It is so weird saying that to you since it has been on the hot side here, too hot for my taste anyway, Hee, Hee, Hee.) Wishing a lovely rest of the week.

    Much love,
    ❤️Ana

  6. Oh Carolyn!! What a shame about your comments! Sometimes this blog thing is not terribly easy to navigate. I'm afraid I'm not technically minded enough to help, given I lost all my posts from the past three years!! I hope someone has the answer.
I loved your tale about the power being off. You don't realise how much you rely on modern convenience until it's gone. I think it does us a bit of good to go "back to basics" every once in a while.
Good luck fixing your comment issue...

  7. Hi Carolyn, Im sorry for the light trouble, hope all is fixed now, I can imagine how horrible must have been but at least, it makes appreciate more little things as you said. Sorry also for the comments but I have no idea how to help you, I think there is no way to get them back once deleted, unfortunately. Stay warm, hugs! xo

  10. LES JONQUILLES

    J’errais solitaire nuage,
Qui vogue haut sur monts et vaux,
Quand d’un coup je vis une foule,
    Un essaim de jonquilles d’or ;

  11. Oh dear Carolyn, I`m so sorry I was one of the complainers, whom indirectly made you do that,-I dearly hope someone can help you get them back.
The loosing power, yes can be cozy for some hours, but also not more,-we are so very spoiled in our world, and can`t function without the electricity!!
I wish you luck with the comments, -Hugs from Dorthe

  13. Hello Carolyn,
I do hope your summer improves soon. what a shame. It really is scary to think how dependent we are on electricity. Our went out for 3 days this past summer. the silence was maddening! I do hope it will not happen again and you will nor be troubled.
I'm sorry but I don't have any help to give you about your comments. I'm not that computer savvy

  14. Dearest Carolyn,
Did you ever export your blog? Only that way you could bring back everything...
    So sorry to hear this.
Sad for the severe weather too. It makes one really appreciate electricity as we all cannot function without it anymore. We are totally lamed, we are 100% electric in our household; no gas at all.
    Hugs,
    Mariette

  15. Dear one, we too had a very bad storm two days ago that knocked off our power and I lost the internet services for 24 hours too! And Blogger is having issues! Oh my friend, be safe and well! Anita

  16. Dear Carolyn,
We live in a area which frequently loses power. Three times for four to five days in the last two years. Our solution has been a power converter, which takes power from the car battery and turns it into house power. 800 watts is enough to run a small frig. a few lights and the radio. We found that running it for a few hours morning and evening worked well for us. This is not an expensive item and saves sanity especially during winter black outs! I now regard this as a household essential.
Hopefully, warmer days are coming. Have you felt that the days getting longer yet?

  23. Hi Carolyn, so happy you are okay through the storms and have your power back on. I know that blogger has been having many issues as I still have troubles, hard time leaving comments, receiving comments and following blogs. I don't know what to tell you about the deleted comments or how to retrieve them back. Perhaps did you do a back up of your blog? That could be one way to add them back. Wish I was more help.
Wishing you a wonderful winter day and stay safe my friend.
    Hugs and Blessings!

  34. Hurricanes ( and severe storms) cause long outages here in Florida. Have been weeks without it. The only good thing is we don't have to deal with cold and snow when it happens. Sorry you have to deal with this, Carolyn.
I accidentally dumped a lot of my food photos last year....so I read the comments with great interest. I have no idea if exporting the blog will bring them back or not. First time I ever heard of doing that. Let me know if you try it and what happens.
Have a great weekend, my friend!

  36. I'll see what I can find out tomorrow... right now I'm beat - we are on the other side and Summer today arrived in all its vengeance - but wanted to say I'm sorry.
But if you do loose the previous comments so many more will come your way, by the same and others. And in the end it won't be that bad as all that commented in the past and still return know you're stored them and its intentions in your dear heart.
Take Care with that - much coveted by me - weather. Stay warm and safe.
