I love all these wonderful stairways.
Walking up a couple of flights of stairs gets your heart rate going and so much healthier than catching the lift or elevator.
Pembroke Castle. this steep stone spiral staircase with vertical bannisters is not for the faint hearted.

but most of the time we are taking small,
seemingly insignificant steps on the stairway of life.

So beautiful ~ I wonder if I could convince my husband that we *need* a new stairway?
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful week ~

Hi Carolyn,
ReplyDeleteYes, staircases can be so elegant and even regal. I've walked those steps at Pembroke Castle...pretty to look at, but very difficult to navigate, especially for those of us with rather large shoe sizes! ;)
Maureen
Beautiful!! I wish when we had hardwood put on our stairway that we had had the banister painted white and hadn't done the entire step in wood . . . NEXT TIME LOL

Carolyn, they are surely elegant,
ReplyDeletemade me remember that my grandparents lived in an old house,on first floor, but there was this huge-brown big hall, with the stairway leading up to them- very beautifull.
Love your poem, it is so right...
Hugs, Dorthe
I too love unusual staircases. Just think of the workmanship that went into building them.
ReplyDeleteLove the staircases! It would definitely be a work out~ I love your ballerinas in the previous post. I had a daughter who danced~ Sweet images and memories for me!
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful week. ~Theresa

ReplyDelete- the runaway
Lovely images today Carolyn --- staircases, i love them too - we have one and I do have that "Gone with the wind" feeling" when I run my hand down the bannister.
ReplyDeleteLovely x
Oooh my goodness, I'm getting vertigo.
ReplyDeleteAren't grand staircases wonderful? Must be the Scarlet O'Hara in all of us.
Just divine. Staircases can be so enchanting! By the way, thank you so much for adding me to your blogroll... such an honor! :) Paris in Pink
ReplyDeleteWhat beautiful staircases, Carolyn! Oh how I miss having one. Apartment living just isn't the same :)
ReplyDeleteHope u had a wonderful weekend! xoxo
Carolyn, everytime I see a set of beautiful stairs I remember all the wonderful old black and white movies I've seen. As a child, all the grand staircases made me wish I could race to the top of them.
ReplyDeleteI'll race you to the top okay?!!! (except the rock stairway) that looks like it would hurt))
hugs to you...
Those are grand. But I just say that I like the stone, the handworked look of the last one most of all.
ReplyDeletelove the flight of stairs is like a perpetual silence accompanies them in his way, and give pasitos slowly but meanigful guidance kisses maria
ReplyDeleteBeautiful! I can imagine strutting down the steps in a cute dress. Now, if only I had a house big enough :p
ReplyDeleteBeautiful stairways!!! and beautiful thoughts about them.

I to have such a love of beautiful staircases -- from the rustic to the polished! They say so much about the rest of the building, don't you think?
ReplyDeleteLOVE those stair ways! The castle stairway is like the one here in Chicago/U.S.A. for the old water tower... standing after the Great Chicago Fire.
ReplyDeleteYour quote is magnificent!
xo,
Mary
Adore all three! A lady would make a Grand entrance, especially on the first two!
ReplyDeleteHave a great week Carolyn!
How are you liking your camera????????????

Beautiful staircases Carolyn. For some reason they have always inspired romance to me....I can imagine walking down the stairs all dressed up and my love standing at the bottom, waiting for me...What can I say, I'm a hopeless romantic :-) Have a wonderful day.
ReplyDeleteHugs and Kisses,
♥Ana
Carolyn,
ReplyDeleteSo nice to be able to come by your place and visit.
I think right now i am sitting on a step taking a break from the long walk up to the top of the stairs.
Blessings to you,
d
Lovely is all that you share

Love your post on stairways! For some reason I've always been fascinated with them. In hotels you'll usually find me using the stairs. *smile* ~Mandy
ReplyDeletewe actually have beautiful circular stairs from our lowest level all the way to our upstairs en suite on the third level...yep, it gets the heart rate going when you want to do them all at once! lOl. beautiful at Christmas too!
ReplyDeleteHi Carolyn, how are you? I hope that you are well. :)
ReplyDeleteI loved that little poem at the end of your post, I've never read that one, before!
That one photo reminds me of the staircase I had to go up, climbing the Basilica Tower in Florence! I had to go up 4 hundred + steps! With tiny, tiny, tiny windows only every few meters! I was getting panicky, it was becoming frightening! But then the view from the very top was breathtaking! :) You ought to try it one day, Carolyn! The Basilica in Florence! :)
