We got there in the end!

Hunterville Post Office.

On Sunday afternoon we went around to a friends home, for a little party to celebrate their fourth wedding anniversary.

Looking back four years ago, we nearly did not make the wedding.
We were driving down to a little place called Hunterville, where we were going to attend the wedding.
It started snowing on the Desert Road and at about 7pm, they had to close the road as it was dangerous driving in conditions like that.
There was only one thing to do, turn around and drive back to Taupo where we stayed the night in a Hotel there.

The next morning, over breakfast, the sun was shinning, so things were looking brighter and we heard on the news at 10.00am that the road had opened again.
We drove down and arrived a little late, but were happy to be able to see our friends
married and have the wedding breakfast. It was a lovely wedding.
We stayed the night at the old Hunterville Post Office, which had been turned into a charming bed & breakfast. There were 10 other couples, good friends, staying there too, so we had a lot of laughs and a great weekend.

    Hi Vee,

The B&B was so lovely, all antique furniture, roaring fire and it was cosy.
I would have really liked to go and stay there again but heard that it has been sold and they have turned it into a brewery!

  6. What an adventure Carolyn. And snow on the Desert Road, I reckon that's the best example of an oxymoron I've heard in yonks!

  7. Hi Millie,

You are right there ~ An oxymoron indeed! In the Summer time though it is a brown, dry and desolate countyside.
This highway goes through the Central North Island. You can see spectacular views of three volcanoes, Mount Tongariro, Mount Ngauruhoe and lastly Mount Ruapehu ( where there are great ski fields and The Chateau.

  8. Beautiful! It must have been stressful on that day, but looking back, Mother Nature made sure the wedding was certainly memorable. Happy Anniversary to the lovely couple!

    Hi Jennifer,
It was an adventure, we turned around and went back to Taupo but some other friends went down the Forgotten highway (that road was open ) and arrived there at about 2 o'clock in the morning, very tired.

  12. What a sweet story! I'm glad you were still able to get there and enjoy their wedding excitement.

What a beautiful old building...it's a shame they turned it into a brewery! Having stayed there when it was a B&B, you are now part of it's history!!!

  13. Sounds like a wonderful time:) The pictures are lovely-especially the snow. We don't get too much snow here so it's fun to see the pictures of snow in other places!

    Blessings,

  14. Hi Renee,

It was a lovely wedding in spite of the very cold day.
My friend is a real good golfer and she was trying for a hole in one, way down there in the gully.

    thanks Jodie,
We were planning to go down there again as it was such a fun old place.

    Hi Kim,

We do not get snow here on Waiheke, it is only when you head further South in the Winter time.
Our kids were so excited to see snow for the first time.

  19. Hi Nancy,

Yes, are used to the snow where it is a novelty for us.
All we wanted to do was get out of the car and throw snow balls at each other.
