Valentines day
Valentines day is here and even if you are not the romantic type, it is always great to acknowledge those near and dear to you and let them know how much they matter to you, in your life.
Showing love comes in its many forms, from loving ourselves to treating our fellow human beings with love and respect.
Lately walking into the supermarket and shops, everywhere you look you can't escape the overload of red and pink everything, from hearts, flowers, chocolates and soft toys, to a beautiful scented candle.
The day has become so commercialized and rather than one day a year, we need to show love and kindness everyday.
Rather than the overpriced flowers and restaurants, I consider it far nicer staying in and cooking a lovely meal and that is what we will be doing.
I did pick up a bouquet of red roses because they looked so pretty and the cards are still on the mantle from our anniversary
Have a wonderful weekend
hugs
Carolyn

Hi Carolyn!! Wonderful roses!
ReplyDeleteMonique
Beautiful roses. It's lovely to have your anniversary cards still displayed. I display greetings cards for quite a while and then I keep them. I still have your Christmas card in a pile of others on the Welsh dresser. I'll transfer them to a special box. My husband and I will have a quiet evening meal on Sunday as we can go out any time, being retired. May you have a lovely weekend yourself, Carolyn.
ReplyDeleteI do so agree when you say that "The day has become so commercialized and rather than one day a year, we need to show love and kindness everyday."
ReplyDeleteYour roses do look lovely - enjoy your weekend - enjoy your meal
All the best Jan
Staying home is exactly what we will be doing. Love and kindness definitely need to be practiced each and every day by everyone all around the world.
ReplyDeleteDear Carolyn, you are so right, this day is far too commercialized and we do not celebrate it here, by spending money in shops ,:-) Tomorrow ,like you we will have a nice meal, and maybe go for a walk somewhere together ,in nature. Yesterday I bought myself a few lovely little things, to use in my "play" room, for cards and such, thats my loving myself ,LOL.
ReplyDeleteThe roses are so beautiful and looks lovely with the cards you received . I wish you both a happy Valentines day tomorrow .
Your surprises will be posted next week.
Hugs, Dorthe
Those red roses are beautiful, Carolyn! A perfect red shade too. I noticed your dresser and mirror in this picture, that is gorgeous. Yes, if only we'd show love and kindness every day, not just on Valentine's Day. Wouldn't that be nice?
ReplyDeleteHappy Valentine's Day to you, sweet Carolyn.
love, ~Sheri

Hope you are having a wonderful Valentine's Day!
ReplyDeleteHello Carolyn,
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your beautiful roses and home cooked meal. It is bad enough we have Easter things in the shops just after Christmas.
Happy Valentine's Day
Bev.
Hi Carolyn, you are so right. Love, respect and being kind still matters and should be shown year round along with Valentine's Day.
ReplyDeleteYour roses are gorgeous. Your home cooked meal, I am sure will be delicious. Enjoy a wonderful day with your loved ones and Happy Valentine's Day! Blessings to you my friend. xo
Hi Carolyn - is their anything lovelier than a bunch of red roses - I can smell the perfume wafting over the waves. I'm in the midst of planning my next trip to La Belle France and so very excited.
ReplyDeleteWishing you and your special man a beautiful Valentine's Day xx
Dearest Carolyn,
ReplyDeletein Austria, they are also trying to commercialize Valentines Day, but here the celebration has not yet enforced. The stores are not yet soooo overloaded with flowers and hearts and chocolate candies. And I'm glad about that. The commercialization of Mother's Day is enough for me ;o)). I like your idea of staying in and cooking a lovely meal!
Happy Valentines Day and lots of hugs, Traude
PS: It was so nice to read that you went to the Queen Tribute Concert over here and enjoyed it, too. Was it the same band we saw in Austria???

Hello dear the roses are so beautiful
ReplyDeleteHappy Valentine's Day x
My lovely hubby bought be tulips - far nicer and far more normally priced than roses - and we are having a takeaway for dinner as a treat which is also the same price as normal so we get to treat ourselves and each other and at no extra cost so we are happy! I hope that you have had a wonderful valentines day and done some lovely things! Happy valentines! xx
ReplyDeleteDearest Carolyn,
ReplyDeleteLovely roses you got and you got great quality too. Here locally we are not that lucky... But never mind. You are so right about it being nauseating commercial!
I'm also for year round showing love to those around us that matter.
Sending you hugs and hope you celebrated a lovely Valentine's evening.
Mariette

I agree with you so many of this special days have been hyped and commercialized! We too stay and home and have a nice meal together although this year our son phoned us during dessert and we ended up eating our chocolate souffles and talking to him at the same time. I always prefer a bunch of seasonal tulips! Hope you had a lovely day together. Sarah x
