A day out on the water

Summer is in full swing here and it has been hot, hot, hot!

Recently we went out for the day with some friends in their boat. We sailed around to an idyllic, secluded beach with lovely white sand and turquoise blue waters.
Took a picnic lunch and got some  fresh, mouthwatering mussels off the rocks, that we cooked up over a little burner and ate them with crusty French bread.

Swam in the sea, played with a frisbee and had such a great day out.
Summer is wonderful and the only drawback was for me, even though I had applied sunblock the sun was too hot and I came home looking a little like a lobster.
A day out in the sunshine, fresh sea air and some exercise is really great and found that night I slept so soundly.
We watched the owners of a 'Sealegs' launch into the sea - a New Zealand invention which allows the owner to drive along the road, then launch right into the sea.

A beautiful weekend to you
hugs
Carolyn

  1. Dear Carolyn, That sounds a perfect way to spend a hot summer day on the beach. Your picnic sounds so good too! That is a good invention allowing people to get from the road straight into the sea! I hope the seas won't end up as crowded as our roads! Hope the sunburn has eased today! Sarah x

  9. Dear Carolyn,

Nothing is healthier than a day by the sea and mussels are one of my favourite seafoods. How delightful to have cooked them on a little burner; I bet they tasted even more delicious.

    Warmest wishes,

    Stephanie

  12. What a lovely way to spend the day with friends. I am sorry you got a little burnt. That sounds like me when I go in the sun. We haven't had the big, big heat waves that we usually do, just a couple of days here and there that are boiling. Keep Cool. Hugs Kay

  16. Thanks for these wonderful photos, Carolyn! If I didn't live on the other side of the planet, I'd hop right over. Right now here in Germany it's all gray and rainy all the time. So this post lifts up my spirits :)

  20. Carolyn, your sea pictures are wonderful. I had been longing for the ocean, so we took a drive there recently. It was everything I remembered, and more. What a clever invention this is to be able to drive along the ocean and then just go right in. So glad you had such a nice day with friends. Your hot summer is at the same time as our cold winter.

    Enjoy your Sunday, Carolyn.

    love, ~Sheri

  24. Oh Carolyn, that's my favourite kind of day!
Gathering mussels off the rocks and cooking and eating them while so fresh - with a glass of New Zealand Pinot Gris.
    There's nothing nicer.
I can't wait for our boat to be back in the water!
    Hugs
