Calico Blue plates and pansies

With all the rain we have been having it has been good for the pansies, which are flowering and looking very pretty.

Today I would like to share with you my Blue Calico plates and bits and pieces.
Burleigh's famous deep cobalt blue pattern has been made continuously in the factory for over 40 years.
Love the look on the Antique Hutch dresser.

Here's a note from the English Novelist and Playwright- J B  Priestley about the collection.

~ Out of the original Victorian buildings, the clay is moulded, shaped and decorated to produce works of art, cups and saucers, plates and teapots, rush like magic out of clay.

May the ovens never grow cold, may Stoke on Trent, the pottery town still continue to be the heart of British craftsmanship.

I am thankful for all my readers, I appreciate each of you that visit and read my blog - Merci!

Hope that you are having a wonderful weekend - it still continues to rain here but we managed a trip across to the City and out for lunch with our Son.

hugs
Carolyn

  4. Like you i love English blue and white china, but sadly with the decline of the factories we have to put up with lots of imports these days. However If i do come across some i snap it up quick as you can't beat English made.
A BIG thank you for following my blog. I do try hard to make it interesting, but seem a bit short on the ground of followers.
Its raining here today and as you said good for the pansies, but not good for boot sailing, never hey there is always another week .......xx

  5. Hi Carolyn
What lovely plates, I've not seen those before. The pattern and colours are so pretty yet bold at the same time - I mean they hold their own on the dresser. I liked the quote very much too.
Hope the weather picks up soon for you, but like you say, at least the garden is benefitting!
    Happy weekend

  7. Good morning gorgeous Carolyn! As I looked at the vintage photo of the factory, I thought about the times when art was more of an industry; it still is to some degree, but it just seems as if more time and value was placed on manufacturing quality art as these lovely plates! But we have the vintage relics to remind us of past generations' need as well, to create something lovely.

    HAPPY DAY! Anita

  8. Dear Carolyn....We for a change are enjoying sunny weather. It's kind of cool to think that we both have pansies blooming on opposite sides of the world.
Love the reminder about the Calico Blue. I've had mine packed away since I sold my other house. Now I want to dig it out!
    Enjoy the week ahead!........*s*

  9. Dearest Carolyn,
Lovely photos of your hutch with Calico blue plates!
Pansies don't seem to mind the weather much, ours gave up in the summer heat and we had to replace them a couple of weeks ago.
    Enjoy your Sunday evening!

  29. I'm a blue china collector too Carolyn - your Blue Calico collection is gorgeous!
I loved reading JB Priestly's narrative - I've now added Stoke-on-Trent to my list for the next visit to the UK! I love those old photographs from the time when pottery factories were at their busiest producing the finest china in the world!
So sorry to hear you were without power - it was so cold then too. Love that you still have a hottie!!!

Don't know if the bowl is rare - I bought mine about 20 years ago when I saw it when we saw it in a shop while on holiday.
