Chanel No. 5

Andy Warhole painted this print, of the bottle of Chanel No. 5.
After we had our bathroom tiled, it hung back up in the space on the wall where it had always been.  Sadly the hook did not hold and alas, it fell and the glass broke into lots of pieces.

It had been sitting away in storage until my husband went and got it reframed this time with a  more elaborate gilt frame and this time with a more secure hook. So it is now back gracing the wall in the bathroom again.

I have always loved Chanel No 5 from the time my then boyfriend, ( husband ) kindly gave me my first bottle. Ever since, for my birthday or Christmas I feel excited to have a little box wrapped up in under the tree.
I adore other perfumes also, but I always find this one to be timeless.
Fragrances bring back memories of pastimes in a way nothing else can and we probably all have a  signature fragrance and one that makes you feel beautiful.  Perfume is one of life's great pleasures.

I am fascinated by the origin and history of this perfume ... The number five, was a lucky number for Madame Chanel and  at the launch, she presented her new perfume on the fifth day, of the fifth month of 1921.

I am not young but I feel young
The day I feel old, I will go to bed and stay there.
J'aime la vie.
I feel that to live is a wonderful thing
~ Coco Chanel

Best wishes to each of you, for a joyful week

  1. Marylin weared this n°5...

  2. Dear Carolyn,
Oh I love this post.. My mother-in-law only wore Chanel No 5.. My mom loved Evening in Paris.
Isn't is wonderful how scents bring back memories?
I wish I knew the name of the perfume my grandmother wore.. I loved the scent, but have no idea what the name was.. Years ago, when I was in a dress shop, a lady walked by me and I was sure she was wearing my grandma's perfume!
I should have asked her what it was.
    Wishing you a beautiful week.
p.s. Have you watched the movie Coco ? It was wonderful.

  3. Carolyn, I am so glad you had that wonderful painting framed so beautifully again.
Perfume brings back lots of memories.

And your Warhol print is so gorgeous! Stellar in that frame...very glamorous.. :)
For me, most memories from long ago are olfactory...perfume has been part of my daily pleasure since the age of first was Coty's Muguet des Bois...

  11. Dearest Carolyn,
Andy Warhole did a great job on this Chanel No 5. You can be very proud for having this gracing your bathroom as it also has a lot of meaning for both of you. I only knew Andy Warhole through Campbell Soup... My favorite is Chanelle Allure.

  12. Hi Carolyn,
I'm very fond of this perfume too because is my mom's fave!^^

  15. Hi dearest Carolyn,
an especially odorous perfume for a wonderful lady! Unfortunately, the scent of Chanel No. 5 does not fit to me ... Interestingly, I'm more the type for men's fragrances. (Currently I love "London" by Dunhill ...) How nice that your Chanell picture is now re-framed and hanging on the spot!
    Warm hugs my dear!

  16. A very interesting story, I never hear about it... Coco Chanel's life has always fascinated me. It's amazing how Chanel No. 5 has been so popular to today.

  17. Wonderful qoute from Coco Chanel, dear Carolyn....
And your picture showing her great succes is a wonderful art piece from Mr. Warhole!
The perfume is surely having a very lovely fragrance! I love the photo of your silver leafe filled with jewlery and the luxury of Chanel no.5
    Hugs from Dorthe

  20. Dearest Carolyn,
Oh, what a sweet story; I had a lovely feeling waking up this morning♡♡♡ And happy for the picture hung again. To tell the truth, I've never tried Chanel and not know about Ms. CoCo much either, but I think I must watch the movie about her(*^_^*) For Andy Warhole; I checked about him with pc p;)

Love and big hugs from Japan under unusual heat(^^;) xoxo Miyako*

  21. Great idea to hang up a parfume print in the bathroom . Perfume is one of life's great pleasures..... sure you are right ! Never without my parfume and my red lipstick ! Chanel 5
is so chic , your boyfriend had good taste .

    have a nice day

please check if I'm in your blogloving circle it seems gfc is going to fade away , and I don't want to miss you !!!!

  22. It's fascinating that Chanel No. 5 is mostly bought by our boyfriends or husbands. I got my first bottle from mine and although I don't use it on many occasions its scent reminds me him, our first days together.

I love your taste in decorating, Carolyn. Have a beautiful day!! xx

  23. It's my mother's favorite perfume, classically wonderful!I have read Coco's biography and I have also seen a film with her life. It's a woman I admire so much for some aspects of her character, so talented and dynamic!

  24. Oh, BONJOUR, Carolyn!

You are so right.....the sense of smell is so strong in bringing up memories and such a great perfume as Chanel No. 5 has lovely memories for me too. It is so good to be back in Blogland after a week off in California! HUGS! Anita

  26. Oh yes my dearest Carolyn.
The fragrance bring us the memory.I 'am looking the old Fantasia-Fendi that my first boyfriend (my husband) ;) gave me for my birthday.

    oh so sweet..
I'll hunting again till I find it ;)
hugs to you my dear Carolyn
    have a great day

  27. So glad your hubby reframed that print. What a sweet reminder too that your husband has been giving you this perfume for so many years!

  28. A true classic, sweet of your husband
to give you such delights each year.
    And the print is beautiful.

  29. I put Chanel no. 5 in my list to get it some day!
    Have a fabulous weekend, Carolyn.

  30. Lovely post, Carolyn. And I agree. And such fun to hang that print on your bathroom wall.
One of the saddest things that's happened as I've aged is an allergy to nearly all perfumes. So I can admire from a distance only. :)

  31. Beautiful my lovely friend.
I love you so very much and all your postings are beautiful as are you.
    Love Jeanne

  32. Love the scent and the painting!

    Happy weekend, darling!

  33. I think you're right about everyone having a signature perfume, although I alternate between perfume proper and things like rose water and sandalwood. I don't like to be without scent of some kind on any day.

  34. Love this perfume...such a classic.
Hope you are well my sweet and hugs to you. xoxo

  35. As you already know it is also a favourite of mine :-)

Hope that you are all well. Here in SW France it is VERY hot!

    très bon week-end à toi,

  36. Dear Carolyn...thank you for sharing such a lovely story. I remember receiving a tiny bottle of the fragrance when I was a little girl...way back in time when perfumers offered TINY bottles. Such an extravagance it was, and is still!
    Sending delights your way...

  37. Love how beautifully it is framed. My best friend always wears that same perfume. It is a classic.

  38. Carolyn,
I am with you, perfume bottles are so pretty to me. Besides the fact that they smell so nice, the labels are often so dazzling. How nice of your husband to give you the gift of Chanel No 5 on your birthdays. And the purse that sits next to it is beautiful.

  39. I love perfume too Carolyn!
How sweet of your husband to reframe it for you ;)
    It is gorgeous!
And its true, fragrances do bring back memories. There is a cologne that my husband wore when we first met, that I usually manage to put under the tree for him. To me that fragrance is just for my husband.
    Have a great week!

    All my heart,
    Deborah xo

  40. Wonderful number....5!
There are 5 in my immediate family. My daughter was born on the 5th day of April. I have 5 grandchildren! I look forward to 5 o'clock everyday.
Perhaps I should try Chanel No 5!
