Paris in the 1900's

In Paris in the 1900's, life was lived on the streets more than in homes and the streets were crowded and alive with people promenading, shopping, going to the theatre, sitting in cafes day and night.

I love the paintings by Jean Beraud, they depict the scene back then, so beautifully.

Well dressed Ladies and Gentlemen, horse drawn carriages, vendors and peddlers selling their wares and children playing games in the streets.

Alfred Delvau wrote 'that as soon as it awakes, Paris leaves its abode and steps out and doesn't return home until as late as possible in the evening'

Paris on a windy day
Autres temps, autres mœurs. This translates to "Other times, other values," or, in English, simply "Times change."

Do hope that you are enjoying the week
hugs
Carolyn

  4. Ahhhhh, Paris in the 1900's was delightful, Carolyn. I really love the first picture. It shows so much character. Nel just got back from her honeymoon there, and it would be so wonderful to visit myself one day. Wouldn't you just love to ride the horse and carriages back then?

Happy Easter, dear friend of mine.

  35. Dearest Carolyn, These illustrations are so neat. Beautiful Paris. The clothing of the time was so beautiful. Where I live it is so common to wear blue jeans and t-shirts all the time. Working at updating my wardrobe as I can. Still I think the Paris Fashions have much to say.

    Glorious day to you,
    d
