Water woes

Onetangi beach, popular with boaties
Auckland has been basking in some glorious sunny weather, but what we are really in need of,  is some much wanted rainfall.
We have not had a decent rainfall, since November and the water tank is down to half full.

Already this season we have had one delivery of water and when I put in another order last week, was told the waiting list stands at 23 days ... when they will next be able to deliver to our place.
So until then we shall be taking brisk showers and conserving our water, even more so than we already do.

The hot dry spell may mean a very good season for the vineyards, but the garden is really suffering and everything seems to be dying. So much for having red juicy tomatoes off the vine, which we were looking forward to.
raindrops keep falling on my head
 {would like to be singing this song!}

Living on an Island, teaches us a lot about running a resilient home.
Each home has to maintain its own water supply, collecting rainwater which runs off the roof into the guttering, then down a pipe which connects to the water tank.
Water is precious and  makes you really appreciate it.

Before I go, would like to share a generous giveaway that Mea is having over at her blog, Mayflower, so go over and visit her.

I hope you are enjoying a fabulous weekend
hugs
Carolyn

  2. Carolyn, May rain come your way very soon.

Our levels are down, but we are not rationing as of yet. The last few years we have not watered our lawns in the Summer time. So much of the yard is in the shade which helps keep the yard from needing watered.

    A precious thing, water is.
    Thinking of you,

  4. I feel for you. In another life I lived on the land and we had rain water. Every drop is precious.
It is so hard seeing plants that you have cared for die.

  5. Good morning Carolyn!

My dear, we here are also wondering when our next day of snow will be. We are already at a very low level of snow cover and that is not so good news for our water supply as well. We had not had snow since BEFORE CHRISTMAS and just two days ago, we had a very slight DUSTING. That is certainly not enough to result in a glorious spring. We do not have the same system as you do for our water supply, but in any case, we need water too.

I pray for the most basic of necessities for us all: WATER.

Keep well my dear and happy February! Anita

  7. We have our own well, water is such a precious commodity that we are careful how we use it.Our windows are never washed, we take the car to be cleaned about once per year, don't flush the toilet each time we use it etc etc.
It's difficult to see people wasting water.
Hope you get some rain very soon.

  9. Hi Carolyn, I pray you get the rainfall you need soon. Yes, water is really to be appreciated. I have enjoyed catching up with your posts and seeing what you are up to these days. It seems I lost a lot of ground being sick. Thank you for the well wishes. I am somewhat better but not 100 percent yet and plerisy has set in my lungs. Very painful. Have a wonderful week and stay well my friend.

  10. Hi Carolyn,

I always enjoy hearing about your home. Here in the Pacific Northwest we get rain and gray from December through June. Feast or famine I guess!

    Enjoy your weekend!

  11. Dear Carolyn, that must be very difficult, to not have water enough- even I also live on an island,we don`t have that kind of problems here. Well be are some years not allowed to water the gardens, which can be bad enough for the farmers, really.
I wish for you there will soon be water from the sky filling the water tanks.
    Hugs,Dorthe

  15. Dearest Carolyn,
Ever since reading the book about the Thornbirds we feel for New Zealand's water problem. But it is so important for every country; for humans and for nature! Hope you will get balanced out by some much needed rains.

  16. Carolyn,
We are supposed to be getting rain here on Thursday and Friday. I think it is always needed to clean everything out. I hope the rain comes your way. You know, I love the song 'Raindrops keep falling on my head.' Sometimes I think we are kindred spirits, my friend...always loving the same things. I hope you have a blessed week coming up.

  23. I hope you get some rain soon, Carolyn, because I know what it's like from our times living in Italy and buying in water before we drilled for a well with underground water from the mountains. Even with tanked water it's still so precious. Every blessing, Carolyn.

  25. I never realized that you had to collect your water. I remember seeing this done in Bermuda. We have a well.

I will say a prayer that you get rain.

  26. If only Mother Nature would distribute rainfall more evenly. Australia gets slammed with rain and floods and you don't have enough water there. If we had to rely on rain in this country for anything we would be in a whole heck of a lot of trouble. The problem is, the government spends a lot of money to provide clean water and no one respects of conserves it. Very sad! Have a good day. Tammy
