A sneak peek of the lounge

Hello dear friends,

All's well here, but I have been busy,... busy, busy with painting and decorating.
Seems to be one of the slowest makeovers of a room, but we are slowly getting there. Makes it harder when you have to move the sofas and furniture, to paint and work around.
It looks and feels a little like a junk shop and will be so pleased when it is finished and we will be able to relax in the new room.
It has been full steam ahead with painting and yesterday I sized the walls in preparation for the wallpaper which we will hopefully start hanging on Saturday.
I am so happy that it is all starting to come together - so many decisions to make with colours, fabrics that we can both agree on.

Here are a few pictures of what is taking place. We have decided on a black gloss paint, for the fire-mantel surround and the skirting boards.
A swatch of the wallpaper we have chosen - a neutral linen look

One other thing please can you tell me what is your favourite - husband likes carpet, and I love wooden flooring ~ what is your preference?

I wish you a happy week
Hugs
Carolyn

  1. Rich golden pine flooring would look marvelous with the linen wallpaper and the black fireplace, it would be a beautiful contrast

  3. Hi Carolyn,

What a beautiful color - and I love your wallpaper! Slow and steady..

We too are in the midst of house upgrades .. it's never ending.

I just had an estimate to start on some kitchen cabinet upgrades. I've been doing lots of painting myself.. just need someone to help with the spraying.

Can't wait to see the finished product!

  4. Dearest Carolyn,

Oh, we both fell in 1989 for cotton/wool carpet but since my asthma in 2007 we have solid oak planks. Like the oak planks a lot more, so easy to clean and HEALTHY!
Maybe this helps you out just a little bit.
Our entire home is only tiles and solid oak planks. Only the office needs to be re-done as it was not solid.
Hugs to you and good luck in finishing. The linen look I like very much and the painting so far too.

  5. How fun to redo a room! I hope you post pictures when you're finished. Personally, I like the LOOK of wooden floors, but I really love the feel of carpeting!

Thanks for stopping by my blog today. I'm your newest follower!

  6. Oh what fun! Well, maybe not (ALL) of it is fun, but the end result will be so worth it. Pretty wallpaper. I love things with texture.

Hmmm...carpet or hardwood floors? That is a tough one. I like both...but I guess it depends on the space. I love the coziness of carpet, but hardwood is so elegant and paired with some area rugs, it can be so nice. (speaking of...that would be a good compromise for the both of you...hardwood for you and area rugs for him)...heehee...

Excited to see what you guys decide.

  12. Definitely wood floors. I didn't put carpet down in our place. Too hard to keep clean, especially in this country. But wood or parquet would have been too expensive. So we just polished the concrete floors and use Persian carpets and area rugs. So easy to change the look of a room by switching out an area rug, rather than having carpet laid that you are stuck with. Hard to believe your hubby wouldn't want the look of wood. Good luck finishing up. Best wishes, Tammy

  13. CAROLYN! Oh do I know this scenario! We spend over a week peeling old wall paper off that had been painted over. Then the movement of the furniture, the priming, the painting. But now, my studio is bright white with beautiful gray wood trim.

I SO LOVE YOUR CHOICE of black for the mantel and French doors!!! THIS HAS BEEN a busy summer for us all!

    Good to see you, Anita

  14. How lovely the little sneak peek of the lounge dear Carolyn.
Ohh.....it's so difficult to choose the colors and others things.
    I know it hihi.
we chose laminate on the floor. It has the look of an old wooden floor and it is easy to maintain.
I'm curious what you will eventually choose.
    Succes and lots of love.
    Warm wishes, Mea

  17. Making over a room or remodeling is a work over on the nerves, if you ask me! God bless you as you work over your home. When it is all said and done you will be so happy!

Carolyn, I like both....wood floors and carpet or area rugs!!!

    The best to you,

  18. Ohhhh Carolyn I am loving your color pallet!!!!

Well I prefer wood floors especially with pets. Throw rugs are easy to clean and/or replace but they do require the same amount of cleaning :) as our house is very dusty and of course with Sophie.

  20. Hi Carolyn,
I can't wait to see your finished room. The preview looks very exciting!
We have carpets but I would like to try wooden floors. Our floors unfortunately are very uneven.

  21. Carolyn, I think wooden floors are beautiful, but I have always liked carpet because it gives a more cozy feel to the room. If you do have a wooden floor, sometimes an area rug to go over it is pretty too. I love the black color you chose - it's very pretty. Please do show us when it is finished. I'd love to see.

  24. I think wooden flooring would be very Nice. But then I think it would require proper maintenance as liquids on wood would leave marks and also rot it.
Its always great to rejig the house!!
Wish you a wonderful week Carolyn:)

  25. I LOVE the wallpaper Carolyn...and it will be gorgeous with the black accent.
I love wood floors, but I have carpet in the living room and bedroom. I love wood everywhere else. Right now we have tile in the kitchen and family room, but think we will have wood floors installed. The tiles are popping up in places : (
I loved the photos you took while in Ponsonby.(sp) That is such a quaint house you shared.
    hugs from here...

  26. Hi Carolyn,
We have stripped pine floorboards in some rooms, and have used Farrow & Ball floor-paint in one bedroom. I love both, so practical for people with allergies. However, our little dog wasn't very happy because she skidded on the wood. Oh, and stilletto heels have a disasterous effect on wooden floors, so cover it up if you have a party!

  27. I love the look of wood with area rugs.Your room is going to be amazing. There is always that moment, just before things start coming together, when it seems utter chaos is the decorating plan!
Not a lot of commenting but know that I am enjoying your blog.

  28. Love that mantel. Looks like you're working hard and I can't wait to see the finished job!
About four years ago I put hardwood floors in the entire house. I love them!
Happy decorating. Nothing is more fun.

  31. Looking good! Wooden floors, hands down. Doesn't matter if they are light or dark wood, nothing beats the look of wooden floors. I'm trying to convince my hubby to install them on our 2nd level, as the entire top floor of our home is rugged. Thank goodness we have tile floors downstairs, as I can't deal with the dust and dirt factor of wall to wall carpeting. However, to each his own. Love your choice of wallpaper!

Sweet Carolyn, thank you for coming to visit me. Indeed, seeing my old friend again was like reading a missing page out of our book of life. What a grand summer it has been but HOT AS CAN BE!!!!!!! Cooler days are ahead, but each day has been so bright and sunny! LOVE! Anita

  33. Dearest Carolyn,
Oh, I really wish to see the finished work♪♪♪ I don't think there won't be much people who do such a big redo in Japan!
We Japanese have Tatami-mats room, so we have at least one tatami room even if how many floor rooms we have. Haha, my point is if you have carpet room already, you migth as well go for wooden flooring.
I hope you are not feeling so cold; we are having scorching hotness and not able to work outside.

Sending you lots of love and hugs from Japan, xoxo Miyako*

    I would choose wooden
Here where I live is not usually find wooden floors in the houses perhaps because in summer time it´s too hot and we use more fresh materials as marble but I love wooden flooring, houses are really comfy and welcoming

I don't have carpet in my home, because of all the pets. I think wooden floors look very warm.
Have a great day and good luck with the wallpapering.
