Hyacinths and Orchids

I have a terracotta pot outdoors which I just forget about every year and it is always fun to see a pretty pink Hyacinth just appear.
Now that we have passed the shortest day here in New Zealand, I always think that Spring will be on its way in a few months.

On the shortest day I planted some garlic - a friend was telling me that you  plant a few garlic cloves in the ground or pot,  and in approximately 4-6 months,  they magically turn into  bulbs of garlic. Fingers crossed, hope mine grow and will let you know. How about you... have you grown your own garlic?

Wishing you all a fun weekend,  and thank you to all my fabulous readers.

Hugs
Carolyn

  3. I have never planted garlic, but it is FUN to watch anything just spring up. We are having the most GORGEOUS summer here. It started off with TONS OF RAIN and now we are getting the inevitable heat, but I am OK with that. Oh sweet Carolyn, your first photo is just STUNNING! LOVE TO YOU, Anita

  4. Our longest day is the first day of summer just a couple of weeks ago :)

No, we've never grown garlic but the garlic capital (Gilroy) is not too far from us. We haven't been to the garlic festival in years but they have everything you can think of made with garlic, yep, even garlic ice cream!!

I hope you have a wonderful weekend Carolyn! I'm off to a yard sale this morning to add to my finds of yesterday!!

  8. Dearest Carolyn,

Enjoy your hyacinths and orchids, they are so pretty.
As for growing garlic, we do have here a very invasive weed which is called wild garlic and it is uncontrollable. As much as I love garlic but not this one...
    Have a great weekend.
    Love to you,
    Mariette

  9. Hi Carolyn,
I'm almost glad when we are past our shortest day! Unfortunately as we have just past our longest day in England we are heading back the other way! I hope your garlic is successful, we have always had a good crop. We usually plant our in October after the first frost.

  10. I think when our winter season rolls around (November-January), I will try to plant more things. I had small tomatoes a couple of years ago. And this past year, I planted a spud and wound up with a tiny potato -- never expected that. So I will try garlic too -- and more potatoes. Fun! Have a great day. Tammy

  16. Our longest day here in my part of the world really brought a lot of heat to our area Carolyn. The wildfires in the west are raging and I hope we get rain soon. It 'almost' makes me wish we could trade seasons : )

I haven't planted garlic before. Can you believe it? And we eat a ton of it. My husband eats a couple of cloves every day!
    big hugs...

  19. Beautiful Carolyn!!!!

OH YOUR HUSBAND TOO is a prince? YEAH! He painted the ceiling AND cooked dinner? HE IS A WINNER! We spent yesterday scraping old wallpaper off my studio walls. The previous owners of this house painted over two layers of wallpaper. We bought a small steamer and just steamed away and scraped. My husband helped me but we were two very tired people yesterday!

IT IS HOT HERE! I hope your weather is more bearable and ENJOY YOUR DAY! Anita

  22. Carolyn,
No, I haven't grown garlic, but I have to say that I love it. It has so many health benefits. I also love to put it in the food I cook, especially Italian food. Your pink flowers are so pretty. It would be nice to walk out and see those. Have a nice weekend.

  24. Hi Carolyn,
Haven't had the pleasure of planting garlic yet, but I'm now more curious about doing so. I've got a full crop of tomatoes, basil, and oregano...so garlic is the next logical step. Looking forward to finding out how things turn out for you.

  26. Hi Carolyn,
Your flowers are beautiful. I have not tried to plant garlic. I hope yours does well. We have had some luck with green peppers this season and a very tall tomato plant that has not produced any fruit yet. I hope it will. We are trying.

Enjoy a wonderful day my friend.
    XO Blessings, Celestina Marie
