The Reading and Powder room

Here are some more pictures, taken inside the Royal Automobile Club.
Through a doorway we came into the Reading Room which made my heart flutter a little faster.
I imagine being back in bygone days when everyone dressed up in their finery and came here for some peace and quite,  to catch up on their reading.
I loved all the old books behind the glass... you could just imagine the old musty smell, that  only you get with age.

The sandblasted glass window to the Ladies room, where you could go and powder your nose.

Along all the corridors of this magnificent old building, were the loveliest old photographs.
This one, I thought was really sweet with the precious little children and looked like one of the very first ways of getting from A to B.

I am looking forward to visiting you,  and thanks to new followers and  for the kind visits from you.
My husband and I spent most of Saturday stripping off the wallpaper and we only have one more wall to go!

Happy week, dear friends
Hugs Carolyn

  7. Hi Carolyn, enjoyed reading your interesting posts about your trip to Sydney. Glad you had a good time. The place you stayed looks so beautiful, it's nice to see some history being preserved in Sydney, as they have far more character than some of the more modern buildings. Happy week to you and good luck with the renovating, hugs Robyn.

  23. Hello Carolyn,
It's something that is wonderful to consider, a reading room and a "Powder Room". Do you remember when the ladies restroom was referred to as the Powder Room" ? There is something elegant about the thought of these two rooms that I wish were still present in our culture today. Thank you for making me think about it.
Can't wait to see how you and your husband will transform your walls!

  32. Back in the 70's I loved how you Kiwis wallpapered anything & everything in sight. It was something we Aussie's just weren't into. That Other Husband did the dining room of our house in Wellington with a ripper deep red flock paper with a raised gold fleur de lis thingie pattern. I did wonder then as a 19 yo what I had got myself into!!

Hope all the wallpaper removal went well. The hard part will be over then and on to the fun part.

Have a great weekend and sending hugs from a very cold Texas this morning. BRRRR. 29 degrees and cold for us.
