She sells sea shells on the sea shore.

Among my favourite memories of summer, as a little girl were the happy times when we would go and stay with my Grandparents for the holidays. This was pure magic as they lived near the sea and we would spend all day frolicking in the water with our plastic boats on a string, picnicking and building sandcastles.
My Grandmother was the sweetest, most loving and kind Lady and I really loved her. What I remember of her well, was because she had broken her hip, she walked very slowly and with the aid of two walking sticks. She loved sea shells and we would walk along beside her and pick up the shells for her and put them in a basket. Then we would go back and help her with the wonderful creations, gluing and covering trinket boxes and picture frames with the pretty shells. I suppose that is why I still love shells today and I am always on the look out for some special shells, on the sand.

I can hardly believe it is already Friday.
I am wishing every body a beautiful weekend, filled with joy and inspiration.

  1. Hi Carolyn,
What a sweet memory, or memories, I should say to carry with you in your heart. Your grandmother sounds so kind, patient and gentle. All the things a very good grandma should be for certain. Yes, I can see why you love shells! Thank you for sharing your sweet memories with us. Happy weekend.

  5. Beautiful story Carolyn, you're truly blessed to have such special memories of your grandmother. I've lots of special memories of my grandmother also, she was the best cook and always put out these huge spreads for our family gatherings. On the day she passed away she had baked a beautiful cake and cooked a chicken to take to visit her son who was sick. She lived a full life right 'til the day she died. I hope I can live up to that. Happy week-end Robynxx

  6. What a wonderful memory Carolyn. Young people of today may not enjoy the sweet innocence of our childhood because they seem to be so keen on playstations, computer games and x box.. things I can't comprehend.
Thank you so much for the card and your kind words. It really means a lot. Love you always dear friend and neighbour

  8. Another very poignant post Carolyn.

What lovely memories of your very special Grandmother and what a gentle soul with her love of shells.

She passed on to you her love of collecting beautiful things.
At times we get so caught up with 'purchasing things', we are inclined to forget about the great bounty mother nature provides for us!

You have a great weekend too, although where I am in Auckland the wind is howling tonight! I hope I can get out for a walk tomorrow!!!

    Take care
    Shane

  13. Love the shells Carolyn. We enjoy bringing back beach treasures from our holidays. I have a few window planters filled with larger shells. They don't fade in the heat, lol and they look so pretty by the pool. Our little piece of water we can pretend is the ocean.

Hope all is well :) Karen

  23. Carolyn amor, what a lovely post I got to come & visit you on :) Your memories of your grandma so reminded me of my own Ita...who also loved the beach with a passion...we always picked up lil treasures for her also. To this day whenever I see a shell something in me makes me stop and touch it...for an instant I can hear my Itas laughter as I would pick up shells and sometimes get caught by the waves as I picked them up :) Thank you so much amor, for visiting me today & letting me know that not only was I not forgotten by one of my dearest blogging friends, but also thought of so warmly...That truly means ever so much to me amor :) I hope you have a beautiful weekend and please know that in So California you have a friend that when she thinks of you....a SMILE always comes to my face :) Besos & huge hugs.... Rose

P.S...grazie for asking about Ashley, she is doing beyond wonderful, she at just alittle over 6 weeks after the accident was walking without a walker or crutches...simply amazing how wonderful God & life is :)
