A ride in an ambulance, was not on my agenda.

Country Living.

Well sometimes a day really does not go, the way you plan. A ride in an ambulance was definitely not on my agenda.
Yesterday I woke at 5.30am to find that because maybe the stage of my life and the time of the month, something was not right, I had haemorrhaged which was very scary.
DH phoned the Medical Centre emergency line .... 111. He did this and within half an hour the ambulance had whisked us down in time to catch the 7.15 am ferry. This is the ferry that DH normally catches and most of our friends were on the boat. Laying in the sick bay was not much fun, feeling like a drained out dish rag and looking like the colour of parchment.

So was so glad when the 35 minute ferry trip was over and the ambulance was waiting, to deliver us to Auckland hospital.
Our friend Nurse Jackie ( also a commuter ) rode with us and made sure that we were looked after once we arrived and we were lucky to have a room to ourselves, with a bathroom.
I was told I could not have anything to eat or drink, maybe a sip of water was all, if I needed.
A cup of tea would have been so nice as that was my normal way of starting my day.

After 8 hours of seeing three Doctors, explaining everything to each one, examinations, prodding and ultrasounds, I was so happy when they gave us the ok to go home.
DH spent the day doing work on his laptop at the little desk in the room and fielding lots of text calls from our friends, who were very supportive.

I was glad to get home, have a delicious meal cooked by DH, ( I was very hungry )
have a shower, and tuck myself into bed for a good nights sleep.
So now we wait for the results and hope that all will be well.

Dozing while waiting to see the Doctors.

I hope that you are having a great week

Hugs
Carolyn

    Hi Marsha,

Thanks for visiting. My husband was really great and it was neat to have his support.

    Hi Melissa,

After having the ultrasound scan, the Doctor said that she would see me in six weeks time ~ 6 weeks is a long time to have to wait. So I hope that I find out soon.
    Will let you know.

Many thanks Koralee for your visit and your well wishes. This means so much to me, having friends like you all. I am so lucky.

  6. Oh my ~ how scary. I read your comment to Melissa ~ do you have to wait 6 weeks to find out any type of answer? That seems very odd.

  10. Hi Jo,

Yes, that is what the young Doctor said to us just before we were coming away. I think that I am going to want some sort of result before six weeks.
Seems way too long to have to wait.

I agree Marsha and I think that we will get our friend Nurse Jackie who knows people to see what we can find out.

Thank you very much Pamela, very kind of you.

  13. Oh my goodness, Carolyn! I am alarmed and so worried. I am sending you as much strength as I can. You are in my prayers. I do hope you get some answers soon and that there are no more scary episodes until you do. Take a lesson from our dear friend Renee. You are your best advocate. Do not be shy about demanding answers or tests just because of etiquette. Doctors are only human.

    Much love to you.

  15. Dearest Carolyn, I am extremely sorry about your ordeal, but I understand the heavy, heavy menses and pardon the bluntness...the extremely huge bloodclots.
Last January I had a similar ordeal and ended up in the emergency room at the hospital.

The emergency doctor told me to take 800mg of IBUPROFEN every 4 hours to stop the bleeding. This slows the bleeding. AND PRAISE GOD IT WORKS!!!

To help prevent you from getting anemic, take iron tablets, eat raisens, peanut butter, molasses.

You are prehaps peri-menopausal and there is a great deal of information out on the internet about this unique time in a woman's life.

I have chosen to do my best to not get a hysterectomy. It is very common for an MD to suggest that you get a hysterectomy if you have fibroid tumors (which sounds terrible, but most of the time they are non-cancerous) in the uterus. Most hysterectomies are done because of fibroids which are a major cause of heavy menses...so they say.

There are natural progesterone creams to rub on your skin to help balance out being estrogen dominant. The estrogen is what causes fibroids to grow. Stay away from soy...it's a natural estrogen.

I'm sorry to have rambled on, but if any of this can help you, may it do so.

Carolyn, may you get to feeling so much better. Please, if you have any questions, I don't mind being asked. I'm not a doctor, but I have been personally challenged by peri-menopause.

    Thinking of you and praying,
    d

  16. Oh sweet Carolyn, I'm so sorry to hear this. I would send my wonderful Not Dr. McDreamy over on the next plane to fix you up, but his specialty is more guts than gynae. Let yourself be cared for by others dear girl, I'm sure it's time you were the caree not the carer. Do you think it might be a uterine fibroid playing up? You know they can emobolize them with coils now in Radiology to dimish the bleeding - a better option than surgery I reckon.
    Love your friend Millie ^_^

  38. Dear Carolyn,
I just remembered something else that I wanted to pass onto you.

Since I am so close in age to crossing over into menopause, I am trying my best to not have a hysterectomy. I have read and also been told by my OBYN/GYNO that after menopause the fibroids will NATURALLY SHRINK on their own because the fibroids are estrogen fed.

After menopause, the estrogen naturally lets up which leads to not feeding the fibroids!!!

    This is good news.
    God bless you,
    d
